Arizona bans funding to Planned Parenthood in abortion fight

Source: Reuters

Arizona Governor Jan Brewer on Friday signed into law a bill banning abortion providers like Planned Parenthood from receiving money through the state, her office said in a statement.

The Republican-backed Whole Woman's Health Funding Priority Act cuts off funding for family planning and health services delivered by Planned Parenthood clinics and other organizations offering abortions.

"By signing this measure into law I stand with the majority of Americans who oppose the use of taxpayer funds for abortion," Brewer said in a statement.

Arizona joins six other states with similar laws, officials said. But three of those states -- Indiana, Kansas and North Carolina -- are facing legal challenges.

If it weren't for Santa Cruz, Pima, Coconino and (to a lesser extent) Yuma and the West Valley of Phoenix, Arizona would be BRIGHT RED!!!

Remember, they brought us Meachem, Symington, Goldwater, Hull and the current twit, Brewer, as well as Jon Kyl, Russell Pearce and the dick running for Gabby's seat, Jesse Kelly, who had a "shoot at Giffords targets" campaign event in 2010.

Sat May 5, 2012, 09:56 AM
May 2012

The Republicans are not interested in returning tax monies to the people for the greater good, or to help people in any way. The Republicans are all about taking our tax money and giving it all to corporations, who will kick back a little bit to keep the Republicans in power.

This is nothing less than a war on the people of the United States. It is theft on a grand scale. People are going to have to wake up and take back their government or pretty soon there will be no middle class. There will be no professional class. The country will be wholly owned by the 1% and the rest of us will have very little.

I'm watching every economic gain made by Americans since the New Deal rolled back to worse than it was during the Great Depression.

13. The real issue is allowing politics into women's health care
Sat May 5, 2012, 10:34 AM
May 2012

As long as there are clinics that exclusively provide gyno care to poor and working class women, they will be targets for religion and sectarian politics and the violence that accompanies those forces. Hospitals? Not so much. We know why don't we? Because hospitals must provide care for everyone and, by law, must provide a level of privacy. It is nobody's business why you seek care or treatment for your health....even if you are a women.
To end this debate once and for all, Congress should make a law that requires that every health care provider and hospital which provides gynecological services, must include therapeutic abortion and birth control. This is health, not politics. If a hospital or clinic wants to deliver babies, it must also provide treatment for all gyno services including abortion or find some other area of health care to specialize. No one could be singled out for persecution. But just like the so called War on Drugs, reactionary puritan values are blocking progress and creating misery for people and strife in our society.

ultimately, Republicans want people who have sex to also have children.

Seems a rather radical-right agenda, to manipulate women's personal lives in such a fashion, while technology allows another course of action, in this case contraception. The children, of course, when they reach adulthood, usually end up being tax-paying units, as are all the rest of us, who once were children ourselves.

They even gave us a coded message (anagram) as Romney ? Rmoney ? R. Money ? Republican Money.

..they don't want abortions, they hate single mothers and blame them for everything. Seems to me that the dirty underbelly of most of these anti-birth control, pro-lifers, is just making sure there is a steady funnel of pregnant young women for the billion dollar adoption industry, run by the very churches that push for this. Seriously, it can really be that smarmy. The church-based adoption industry is in bed with so many pro-life officials like Orren Hatch, that this stuff comes as no surprise. How can they sell the babies of girls convinced that they can't care for their own child, if they allow them abortions and birth control?

The US Republican Party and the Chinese Communist Party are merely opposite sides of the same coin. One forces women to have abortions against their will, the other wants to force women to give birth against their will. Both believe in socializing women's vaginas.
