To Help US Veterans Charity, George W. Bush Charged $100,000

Source: abc news/Yahoo

Former President George W. Bush charged $100,000 to speak at a charity fundraiser for U.S. military veterans severely wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan, and former First Lady Laura Bush collected $50,000 to appear a year earlier, officials of the Texas-based Helping a Hero charity confirmed to ABC News.

The former President was also provided with a private jet to travel to Houston at a cost of $20,000, the officials said.

The charity, which helps to provide specially-adapted homes for veterans who lost limbs and suffered other severe injuries in “the war on terror in Iraq and Afghanistan,” said the total $170,000 expenditure was justified because the former President and First Lady offered discounted fees and helped raise record amounts in contributions at galas held in 2011 and 2012.

“It was great because he reduced his normal fee of $250,000 down to $100,000,” said Meredith Iler, the former chairman of the charity.

What kind of man sends you to war and then profits off your misery? Just how many prosthetic devices would $170,000 put on legless and armless heroes?

I couldn't bring up a rating (% of income that goes to actual help) but they came under scrutiny and were named in lawsuits last year.

Glad there is one for the folks that are less informed but just the fact these idiots invited W is reason enough not to donate to this "charity", even if he had waived the whole fee instead of the standard "military discount".

Gee, Diamond Jim, that was might big of ya. Wonder how much they could have helped a disabled veteran with that money - rather than showering it on the man who sent them over to Hell to get their lives permanently changed and their legs blown off. Assuming they were "lucky" enough to survive in the first place.

He is lower than shit.

Veterans have the VA at their disposal. What's needed, is a more equitable distribution of our tax dollars, to expand and support the nations commitment to it's promise. That, would insure that scams like this would not have room to fleece.

There should be no reason for the sort of problem you're experiencing, but there are people and profits being served before the people it promised to care for.
btw, I hope you get the service you need sooner than later. SALUTE !!

not to mention some of the "Wounded Warrior" charities
(there are apparently more than one), not to mention the "US Navy
Veterans Assoc." - many of which are outrageous frauds, esp. the latter,
that pocket the donations and funnel cash to GOP candidates.

From the war Dubya started, not one one them has received anything from anyone outside of the Veterans Administration. These groups come out in droves around Memorial Day this year. Everyone is dropping money in those buckets!!!

I'm betting it's all a bunch of scamsters profiting off injured vets. In that case, Dubya fits right in.

per speech. "I'm going to get me some of that when I leave office."

Then there was Limpballs, comparing Raygun and his speaking fees with Jimmy Carter building houses. (Paraphrase) No one wants to pay to hear him so he is reduced to putting nails in roofs.

My favorite summation of the Carter administration is that during his time in office, there wasn't a shell fired in anger.
