Letterman comes out of retirement with a Trump-themed top ten list
Source: The Hill
Longtime late-night host David Letterman retired earlier this year, but he wasnt quite done with Donald Trump.
The comedian made a surprise appearance at Steve Martin and Martin Shorts show in San Antonio on Friday night to reprise his most famous bit: The top ten list.
Letterman said he had no regrets about retiring from comedy until Donald Trump said he was running for president.
I have made the biggest mistake of my life, ladies and gentlemen, he quipped, before launching into a list of interesting facts about Trump.

We are seriously being deprived in not having Dave on air to rip Trump every night.
And here's one more, for old time's sake, that I never get tired of reposting:
and, yes, three years later, despite his promise, his clothes are still made in China.

I'm just glad Letterman's not becoming invisible in retirement. He was a very strong and appealing Dem voice on his show.
And I never thought his sincere political input with guests (eg. chastising Bill O Reilly for his criticism of an anti war mother who had lost her son to Bush's war in Iraq) was in any way scripted...That was the first time in decades I remember any MSM "star" openly accusing a Repub mouthpiece of lacking basic human decency & it seemed a very personal moment of outrage from Letterman.

I do think it is important to give credit where credit is due.
The "David Letterman" on the tv show is very much a character/personae that he put on for entertainment purposes.
The real David Letterman is a misogynistic pig who took advantage of his position of power to prey on his young female staff members for sexual favors (something he has confirmed doing).

(2,681 posts)about him calling her fucking retarded. Sparkle Moose said that the word retarded was an extreme insult to people with mental problems. And then Rush Lamebrain said something along the lines that liberals were retarded. When someone in the press told McMoose that Lamebrain also used the word 'retarded', and if she was going to admonish Rush too, she said that it was different because Rush was a comedian.
Huh? WTF? Letterman is a serious person and not a comedian and Lamebrain is a comedian and not a serious person? Palin is 'fucking retarded'.

(82,087 posts)Considering what's in the news these days, he sure called one thing correctly in that first video: retiring now turned out to be "the biggest mistake of my life!" I'll bet Jon Stewart feels a little of that.
It's comedy gold.
No I take that back. It's comedy platinum!

(14,093 posts)None of the women he was involved with claimed sexual harassment.
And consensual relationships among these adults are none of our business.
Moving on...

(58,724 posts)Excerpt:
Late-night talk shows have long snubbed female writers. (Blaaaaame Johnny!) Now old charges of sexism have joined new concerns about sexual harassment, triggered by an alleged extortion plot that prompted David Letterman to admit on-air, I have had sex with women who work for me on this show.
Most media stars responded by defending one of their own. On The View, Barbara Walters remarked that Dave is a very attractive man and offered a blanket excuse for his in-house affairs: Where do you meet people? In the workplace. Joy Behar took a tougher stance and argued that his behavior might have created an atmosphere thats uncomfortable for other female employees, especially if youre one of the girls who works there and [are] just doing your job. But Walters had little sympathy for the working girls. Maybe youre annoyed today, but thats not necessarily sexual harassment, Walters said. It isnt sexual harassment, she added.
Actually, it may be. Theres a subset of sexual harassment called sexual favoritism that, according to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, can lead to a hostile work environment, often creating an atmosphere that is demeaning to women.
And that pretty much sums up my experience at Late Night with David Letterman.

I think it's important to take this sort of thing seriously and not let these powerful men continue to get away with this crap.
If that means I am not "a blast at parties" then so be it.
