Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange on Monday agreed to file a document that says all state agencies will agree to grant the same rights and privileges to gay married couples that opposite-sex couples already enjoy, attorneys for Vestavia Hills same-sex couple April and Ginger Aaron-Brush say.
"Attorney General Strange conceded that he will file a formal pleading on behalf of all state agencies that they will comply with the relief demanded in April and Ginger's complaint," said Wendy Brooks Crew, one of the attorneys for the Vestavia Hills couple.
When asked by AL.com what Strange had agreed to at a Monday status conference in the Aaron-Brush case, the Attorney General's Office issued this statement: ... "During this morning's conference, Attorney General Strange acknowledged that the U.S. Supreme Court's decision is the 'law of the land' and that the Court's decision is binding."
The status conference was held in the chambers of U.S. District Court Judge David Proctor and an AL.com reporter was unable to attend.
