Trial set to begin for Alaska men charged with plotting to kill government employees

Source: AP

FAIRBANKS, Alaska — Three Alaska men are scheduled to go on trial Monday in Anchorage on charges of plotting to kill government employees.

Fairbanks militia leader Schaeffer Cox of Fairbanks, Coleman Barney of North Pole and Lonnie Vernon of Salcha were arrested 14 months ago and also face weapons charges.

The FBI classifies the sovereign citizen movement as domestic terrorism movement known for clogging the court system with fraudulent liens and lawsuits.

Cox ran for state House in the Republican primary in 2008. In 2009 he started a gun rights organization, the Second Amendment Taskforce, which staged large rallies in Fairbanks.

Homeland Security Report Warns Of Rising Right-Wing Extremism

05/15/09

If you think the conservative "Tea Party" movement is daunting, take a look at a new report issued by the Department of Homeland Security that says right-wing extremism is on the rise throughout the country.

In the report (a full copy of which is below), officials warn that right-wing extremists could use the bad state of the U.S. economy and the election of the country's first black president to recruit new members to their cause.

The report was met by howls of protest from right wing extremists.

The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

No wonder he has sociopathic tendencies! He must have received poor grades in "work and play with others."

Cox is not a bad last name, but care needs to be taken when choosing the kid's first name. It sounds like chafing cocks or something. Shave your cocks.

Alaska militia members spoke of hanging bodies from lamp posts: prosecutor

By Yereth Rosen

ANCHORAGE, Alaska | Tue May 8, 2012 8:41pm EDT

(Reuters) - Three members of a pro-gun Alaska militia plotted to kidnap or kill two law enforcement officers for every militiaman arrested or killed, in tough talk that included discussion about hanging bodies from lamp posts, a federal prosecutor said on Tuesday.

Schaeffer Cox, a fixture in the Fairbanks political scene who founded the "Alaska Peacekeepers Militia," is on trial in Anchorage along with fellow members Coleman Barney and Lonnie Vernon on weapons and murder-conspiracy charges linked to the plot, dubbed "2-4-1."

The men have pleaded not guilty. They face terms of up to life in prison if convicted of the most serious charges.

Evidence of the plot and the illegal weapons acquired to carry it out lay in 100 hours of recorded conversations obtained through informants, Assistant U.S. Attorney Yvonne Lamoureux said in opening statements in U.S. District Court in Anchorage.
