Officials Assure Transparency in Sandra Bland Jail Death Investigation

A group of Texas and Waller County officials met with authorities Tuesday about the death of 28-year-old Sandra Bland while in the Waller County Jail on the same day dashcam video of her arrest was released.


State Senator Royce West emphasized that the investigation into Bland's death would be transparent and thorough at a news conference at Prairie View A&M University after meeting with authorities. Just last week, West asked the Texas Department of Public Safety to release any video related to the case.

"We will be patient to allow the process to work itself out – but it will be transparent," West said. "We're going to be watching every step of the way to make sure that the job will be done correctly."

Authorities have said Bland committed suicide by hanging herself in her cell days after she was arrested, but her family disputes the account.

Now the claim is she used a plastic trash bag from a trash can in here cell as the object to hang herself with.

11. i can't watch it all.

she made it clear that she would go after him for what he did to her. you can hear the disbelief in her voice. i think they murdered her because they knew she would cause trouble. will there be justice. i feel so sick at heart.

she mouthed off at him but he tried to get her to do so. you okay? you okay? you seem upset? and she tells him, i tried to get out of your way and you pull me over for it. which is true.

i feel as if i should watch it all but i just cannot. this shit cannot go ON. she's dead now and i do not believe she killed herself.

just as an aside, my son was arrested once for talking back to a sheriff's deputy. this was in southern CA and he was white. so they just put him in a cell for a little while then cut him loose, because they had no probable cause to arrest him. he was not sufficiently respectful. sometimes it's pretty hard to be respectful toward some asshole who deserves nothing but contempt. but my son did not die for it and Sandra Bland did. Please let justice be done.

Trust me. We have lots of "Barney Fifes" around here. I watched part of the dash cam video from the cops car tonight. Looks like the trooper wasn't getting his "due" respect and was going to teach her what and wasn't the law.

She knew her rights, she did not have to get out of the car. He got her out and slammed her head on the ground. A felony charge slapped on because the woman is expected to freeze perfectly still/quiet.

Three days in jail waiting, who knows what was said to her in jail. Even if she suicided by her own hands, their treatment of her drove her to it.
