NYPD cops caught on video beating alleged pizza thief taken off the street

Source: my daily news

The NYPD cops under investigation for the videotaped beat down of a Brooklyn man with his hands raised in surrender have been stripped of their guns and badges, the Daily News has learned.

Officers Pearce Martinez and Lenny Lutchman of the 81st Precinct have been removed from street patrol as the investigation by the Brooklyn District Attorney's office and the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau intensified Thursday.

The cops were caught on video pounding robbery suspect Thomas Jennings with their fists and a baton in a Bedford-Stuyvesant grocery store on July 7. The video, obtained by the Daily News, does not back up the cops' sworn claims that Jennings was resisting arrest and flailing his arms.

Could be either or both for these two officers but they should not have badge after this at the very least.

when law enforcement believes there will be no consequences for such violent behavior. We have make them accountable or people will start seeking their own justice. I cannot imagine how a family copes when a violent sociopath, protected by a badge, gets away with such abuse.

by police in order to cover the cops' asses.

What's funny is that Bill Bratton's "solution" to the Eric Garner controversy was to make resisting a felony charge, so in Bratton's perfect world, people like Thomas Jennings would be facing a felony charge on top of the beating that they've had to endure at the hands of the officers who've arrested them.

Recently the entire police force EVERYWHERE in America FAILED in the international use of force exam.

They believe their role is to punish the guilty.

The U.N. Committee against Torture urged the United States on Friday to fully investigate and prosecute police brutality and shootings of unarmed black youth and ensure that taser weapons are used sparingly.

The panel's first review of the U.S. record on preventing torture since 2006 followed racially-tinged unrest in cities across the country this week sparked by a Ferguson, Missouri grand jury's decision not to charge a white police officer for the fatal shooting of an unarmed black teenager.

The committee decried "excruciating pain and prolonged suffering" for prisoners during "botched executions" as well as frequent rapes of inmates, shackling of pregnant women in some prisons and extensive use of solitary confinement.

you can find hundreds of articles on search or just get into the private message boards of police and see how they laugh over injuries they cause to prisoners with their beatings and attack dogs.

This kind of garbage will not stop unless the actual officers have something to lose. Until there is accountability, they are empowered to do anything they want.

It looks like the escalation is in response to the suspect saying something. He certainly was not flailing his arms, never mind moving them in a menacing way. The bald cop just came out of nowhere swinging.

which is why the attack by the bald cop is so jarring.

And yes, police should be able to tolerate insults, curse words, and a lot of other language without escalating the situation (never mind using language as an excuse to beat someone.) If you insulted my mother and I punched you, the cops would arrest me, not you.
