Clintons' charities got £50million of British aid cash: UK government accused...

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by etherealtruth (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Daily Mail

Tens of millions of pounds of UK aid money has been siphoned through charities linked to Hillary Clinton, it emerged last night.

British politicians – including Gordon Brown – stand accused of diverting huge amounts of cash through the organisations after falling under the spell of the US presidential candidate and her husband Bill.

At least £50 million of taxpayer-funded foreign aid money has gone to Clinton charities, which are at the centre of allegations in the US that foreign governments used donations to buy influence.

But critics are concerned that waste at CHAI is so high that British taxpayers may end up paying millions of pounds of management charges – money which they say would be much better spent on front-line disaster relief.

Why are we supposed to be alarmed by this? And I ask that as a longtime Clinton critic who sticks to REAL criticism, not the made-up, RW alarmist BS that finds its way to DU on a consistent basis.

Not everyone who posts articles critical of Clinton is "RW." Surely you know that by now.

is 'RW'"? After my experiences with right wing British newspapers during the late 90's, I don't trust them as far as I can throw them. They were, at that time, definitely a part of then FLOTUS Hillary Clinton's VRWC...and it was well documented. I have no reason to believe the British righties have changed their tune or affiliations.

I never ever, imply, insinuate or outright accuse a DU'er of being a right winger; even Democrats on DU that profess to being conservative Dems.

Some of the charities that receive UK overseas aid are "linked to" Hillary Clinton. So what? The Daily Heil is simply wording a completely innocuous fact in such a way that the dim fascists who buy the paper* will read it as "The UK is giving taxpayers' money to Hillary Clinton, and it's all Labour's fault, even though they have been out of power for over 5 years". Not false, exactly, just misleading.

*=Edited to add: I'm referring to their target readership, though I should moderate that a bit by saying that not everyone who buys a paper necessarily agrees with its politics. I had a friend back in the '80s who used to buy it purely for the crossword and the cricket coverage, even though he hated Thatcher, who the Mail naturally adored.

in fact, there was a time in the late 90's, the Guardian was considering publishing a U.S. edition. After what we (Gene Lyons, Joe Conason and myself as well as other folks on the Liberal/Left) went through with media coverage with Whitewater/the "murder" of Vince Foster, etc., we were pretty excited about it.

My husband used to work for the daughter of the then owner of the DM; he died and now the daughter and son own the rag. Lady Geraldine and her brother, Lord whatever his name is, claim to be liberals but anxious to carry on their father's legacy.
