Comcast Killed The Ed Show For Talking About TPP
When it comes to coverage of the Trans Pacific Partnership, no one in the corporate media covered the issue more than Ed Schultz on MSNBCs The Ed Show. When it was announced last week that they were pulling the plug on his program, they effectively killed the only national voice that was talking about the disaster of a trade deal on cable news.
According to Media Matters, between August 1, 2013, and January 31, 2015, Ed Schultz covered the TPP on 71 different segments, not including the time he brought up the issue during the networks coverage of the State of the Union Address in 2015. The only other host who mentioned the TPP during this same time period was Chris Hayes, who only mentioned it one time in passing on his show. The rest of the networks personalities remained completely silent on the issue during this 18-month period

If we were to believe some on this site, there are about 20 million "oligarchs".

(94,544 posts)...it's also a fact that The Ed Show has the lowest ratings for PM news/talk shows, and that the show had already crashed an burned in a primetime slot previously.

(2,657 posts)if the reason he was cancelled was an unreasonably obsessive fixation on the issue to the exclusion of other equally important matters.

(29,067 posts)MSNBC had the rest of the lineup to discuss "other" issues, which I might disagree on their being "equally important".
They never talk or talked about the TPP or Labor Unions -- It's probably why they still have a job.

(2,657 posts)"other important issues" (removing the word "equally." I have no dog in this fight but his job involved talking about a large variety of issues didn't it? Was it hurting his ratings to spend so much time on this?

(57,936 posts)TPP is what is unreasonable.
Everybody should be talking about the TPP.
It's shameful that such a momentous agreement may be entered into with so little information about it disseminated to the American people.
Ed Schultz was doing his job.
Fox doesn't. And the other cable news stations did not do their jobs on the TPP either.
Shame on them, and shame on Comcast for firing Ed Schultz.

(10,495 posts)That Comcast would prefer not be mentioned. He did over a week straight of segments reporting the truth of the BP oil spill settlement, or lack there of. He interviewed many of the victims and my boss, one of the lead attorneys in the case, despite BP being one of the largest advertisers in the country.
More likely, in my opinion, the last straw had to be his support of Bernie Sanders, who is on record as vowing to break up the media oligarchies and push for publicly funded elections that would cost billions in political ad revenue!
This is what comes from the corruption of our election system, it allows for the corporate control over our government and for the existence of business oligarchies. Ed was the only one who put his country ahead of his own self interests. He is my HERO!

(5,113 posts)for example
using the prime 25-54 demographic which is really the only one that sponsors really care about
eds ratings were 35% below cnn's the situation room
80% below faux news
if you use the 35-64 demo his ratings were 15% below cnn's and 70% below faux news
the simple fact is his ratings sucked. and thats why he was cancelled. no other reason

Comcast needs to be fired. That's who we need to fire.
Go on a cable strike. Just don't watch cable until they stop interfering in politics.
We don't have to take this anymore. And we shouldn't.
There are lots of good news sources on the internet that don't rely on cable news.
