John Edwards repeatedly called liar at trial

Source: Washington Post

In a packed, tense courtroom room here Wednesday, jurors heard over and over again that former presidential candidate John Edwards is a liar.

They heard it from Edwards’s defense attorney, Abbe Lowell, and they heard it from a staffer who worked to draft public statements in an effort to contain the damage from revelations about the former senator’s affair with a campaign staffer. Edwards even lost credibility with his closest advisers. Jennifer Palmieri, now deputy White House communications director, testified that she advised Edwards not to do an August 2008 interview with ABC if he wasn’t prepared to tell the truth.

“Even I didn’t believe what he was saying,” Palmieri told jurors.

Edwards went ahead with the interview, saying he wasn’t the father of mistress Rielle Hunter’s child. He also stated that he didn’t know money was being spent to support her.

lies are not believed. There is nothing unusual about lying about an affair. Could happen to someone near you.

I haven't done it, but I know that people who have affairs have a hard time admitting it even to themselves. It's like an addiction, I suspect.

so the combination of those two makes it unlikely that it could happen to someone near me or you or most of us.

We are all capable of rationalizing in amazing ways. It's a survival technique, perhaps an outgrowth of our survival instinct.

How do you think George Bush reconciles having killed so many Iraqis and American soldiers when there was utterly no reason to go into Iraq that he or his aides could articulate.

Sorry, but I would rather read was the NYT has to say. WaPo is little better than the Washinton Times now.

... whoppers, in fact.

Iraqi occupiers were tossing Kuwaiti babies out, and sending the incubators back to Baghdad.

Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy. And, he was acting alone.

The U.S. Navy was brutally attacked in the Gulf of Tonkin.

Iraq had stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction.

Or, maybe they're not lies. Who knows?
