George W. Bush Requests More Taxpayer Dollars Than Any Other Former President

Source: Huffington Post

George W. Bush is slated to receive $1.3 million in taxpayer dollars for fiscal year 2013, including $85,000 in phone costs and $26,000 in printing costs, according to a budget proposal compiled by the General Services Administration.

The money -- provided under the Former Presidents Act of 1958, which grants ex-presidents a taxpayer-sponsored "annual allowance" -- goes toward office expenses, staff and travel.

This seems like an area we can cut costs without any harm to the citizenry. Like some other poster pointed out yesterday they're all making millions on speaking engagements and books. So I don't see why we need to subsidize them.

Sure, if they go on some diplomatic trip or mission for the US we should pay for that. But otherwise they should be just like any other citizen and pay for their own expenses.

of when he was running against Kerry in 2004 and folks were clamoring for his college grades to be released so all could see how dumb he really was, especially compared to Kerry.

Problem was it turned out Bush had a higher gpa then did Kerry and we never heard another word about grades after that.

I think we should all deal with the issues of today and work to get the president re elected and stop living in the past. Running against Geo W Bush will be a total losing position.

Cheney's assistant was a legacy, so they graded him easier, and he took easier classes too. Further, there were Pass/Fail classes on his "illustrious" record.

It was originally passed because Ike, who spent most of his life in the military, would have been in dire financial straits after leaving the presidency. Truman was also anything but a rich man. Recent ex-presidents of both parties have had no trouble making plenty of $$$ after leaving office. Repeal!

We would expect that our former heads of state to maintain communication with Americans and others. Further we need to provide for their security.

But this is ridiculous. Clinton's foundation is bringing in millions to HELP PEOPLE while taking less from the public. What is Georgie Porgie doing? NADA, NOTHING. Just like it was when he was President and for that he is milking the taxpayers millions.

Screw him.

I think that's the best way to do it. If a former president is making millions then they don't need it.

The idiot son of an asshole has established the "Bush Institute," which is a scary fucking place to think about: it works on education reform, human freedom, global health and economic growth--the four things the Bush Administration failed the worst at.

He also runs the "Warrior 100K Ride." The first one was this year. He took nineteen of the soldiers his illegal war permanently damaged and led them on a 100-kilometer mountain bike ride through the middle of the desert. Now, you got to admit it takes balls to stand before soldiers whose permanent disabilities are 100-percent your fault and thank them for their service before torturing them on one of your Bataan Death Marches.
