Boxing out Biden

Source: Politico

At fundraiser, Clinton and Obama supporters revel in unity and hope the vice president will take a pass.

EDGARTOWN, Mass. – As Joe Biden considers a possible run for president, the donors he’d need to be viable appear to be ruling him out....Clinton-Obama unity — not Biden’s decision — was the theme of the weekend on Martha’s Vineyard. The Obamas are currently on vacation on the island, where Bill and Hillary Clinton spent most summers during his two terms. Obama and the former president played golf on Saturday morning and toasted their mutual longtime friend Vernon Jordan at his 80th birthday party that evening.
On Sunday, ... Obama vacation regulars, like private equity investor and golf buddy Glenn Hutchins, mingled over one-bite BLTs and chicken sausages, with the likes of Sandy Berger, Bill Clinton’s national security adviser.

...

While there was some hand-wringing about Bernie Sanders’ rise on Sunday, there’s zero appetite to see the vice president offer himself as another alternative, said Rob Liberatore, who as a former aide to the late Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) has known Biden for more than 30 years.... “I would be surprised if he decided to run, unless something happened to Hillary, something health-wise or who knows what,” said Liberatore.

I am a skeptic of the Biden may run talk. I think it is mostly lazy media trying to manufacture a story line and partly Republican shit stirring.

isn't that special? I'd expect it to fall apart once the toothpick was removed. Wonder how that would go over in Iowa?

jumped out of an SUV, took a bite of a Pork-Chop-on-a-Stick and then drove off (while Bernie talked to crowds).

This must have been also where Steph Curry of the NBA Golden State Warriors (MVP), was playing golf with Obama.

12. You eat it off the toothpick--it's an hors d'oeuvre!

I've had one-bite grilled cheese with shots of tomato soup, too.

These kids and their retro "childhood days" cocktail snacks!!!

They'd probably like those sandwich-related munchies in Iowa better than the bacon-wrapped scallops and the frou-frou chicken on a stick with an unpronounceable sauce name!

11. As a Sanders supporter my only consternation is over the nonsense that the race needs an alternative

to Clinton. Sanders already offers an alternative to Clinton (as do O'Malley, Chaffe, and Webb for that matter), and the implication that Biden somehow better fills that role annoys me somewhat.

With that said, I'm happy for more voices generally, but I'm not sure that Biden's voice is really all that different from Clinton's, and I am not really looking forward to watching Biden enter a race only to conclude his long and distinguished career as a third-place "also ran," which seems to be the likeliest outcome. Fortunately, I think a Biden run is extremely unlikely.

6. The Corporate 3rd Way faction may be trying to get Biden to run as insurance against a Hillay spill

and as a way to keep control of the entire process. But Biden has good excuses not to leap when they summon him, and he's using them.

I think Biden regrets selling out to banksters....took him long enough!

The Corporations haven't bought Bernie...and it's too late to start, which is why he needs security as soon as possible, and not Secret Service, which is incompetent, if not corrupt.

If they try to blackmail him, he just needs to talk to Julian Assange....so that method is out.

I cringe when I see Bernie in crowds...but if the crowd mass doesn't mind serving as his bodyguard, it might be safe, for a while. It's when it starts to get down to the wire that nerves will be at the breaking point and things will get VERY dangerous for Bernie and our country.

I'd like to be proven wrong, and not live through 1963 again. Or 1968. Once was too much.

8. Due to his son's wishes I think Biden feels he must at least respect the idea

I think Biden is compelled to let the idea of his running have a decent amount of air to breathe. If it catches on, he'll very seriously consider it. If the idea ends up seeming very far fetched then it gets moved to the back burner, for in case the situation changes.

It was cruel for anyone to even repeat it/publicize it.

Biden is beloved as an adjunct, but he's never been able to make a go of it as the Main Event. He's run before and he never catches on.
