I was starting to wonder if it was actually the candidate or just a Hillary Bobblehead.

Keep looking for the 'scandal' that will 'take Hillary down.'

18. No, I think what has been claimed and documented is that the 'disruption' was published in advance,

and that the activists did not allow enough time to clear the security detail which surrounds a former First Lady.

One has to wonder if someone really wants to disrupt an event why speak to a media outlet in advance, have them write a story and then have BLM Boston put it on twitter hours before the event?

And then on top of that arrive late?

and all she could say is I'm throwing the ball back into your court?

She also sounded defensive, like hey, don't blame me for the problems you have no idea how to fix. She got defensive with him a couple of times.

I'm sorry, but this is not showing her to advantage.

In a short meeting like this, there is no time to sit down and talk about actual solutions...but she shouldn't just say it's your job now, come back when you have some ideas. At the very end she finally said "I'm ready to do whatever I can to help you"...but where is the initiative to start looking at the laws that have put so many blacks in jail?

This just sounded cold to me. But then that's pretty much my impression of her all the time, so maybe it's just me.

Now try to picture Obama in this same interview. He would have come across as human, empathetic and positive. Why is her tone so cold all the time?

We all bring our preconceptions to these things. I know I sometimes do (try as I might to remain objective.) But I can speak as someone who respects, but has been somewhat skeptical of HRC in the past, and I saw something very different.

First, she was listening respectfully, for a rather long time. Not shrinking off. And those "mm-hmms" that people upthread were making fun of--well, that sort of said to me that she knows black people. You probably heard all the "mm-hmms" from the reverends on stage with Obama when they were listening to his speech in Charleston, and you heard the "mm-hmms" that the group was responding to Hillary with when she began to talk. "Mm-hmmm" is okay. It's like "I hear you."

Finally, I don't think she was simply throwing this back in their court. I think she was honestly trying to reflect how change occurs historically from movements, and it's not top down. They don't need a momma telling them what's right or what to do. They need to empower her to be the agent of their change, and she was giving them license to do so. You all saw Selma, where King had to push and prod and coach Johnson on each aspect of what he should do. Hillary (although I'm sure she has some ideas about legislative possibilities) was acknowledging that the change has to filter upward from the movement, not downward from an authority figure. She was asking for them to provide her with the ideas, to be partners in finding the solution. She was also acknowledging something important: that just getting white folk to say "I get it" is not enough. In fact, it's only a way of disposing with the situation.

So I was, on the whole, not just okay with it. I was a little impressed.

was awesome. This is the way president's respond to the concern's of a constituency. She listened very carefully then she VALIDATED their issues and gave them historical context. Then and this is the beauty of what she did. Oh yes, I love this part so hard. HRC linked the BLM struggle to other constituencies' struggles, women, LGBT, civil rights, poor children and then the cherry on top was telling tehm it is their responsibility to take that next step by developing a policy agenda and legal case precedent. This was an amazing and powerful exchange.
