First wolf pack in decades spotted in Northern California

California has its first wolf pack since the states gray wolf population went extinct in 1924.
State and federal authorities announced Thursday that a remote camera captured photos earlier this month of two adults and five pups in southeastern Siskiyou County.
They were named the Shasta pack for nearby Mount Shasta.
The pack was discovered four years after the famous Oregon wandering wolf OR-7 first reached Northern California.

(46,585 posts)I had an impassioned conversation over dinner recently with friends about the falcon that was killed by a woman trying to protect the duck the falcon was hunting (link to story below for reference). It is a poser, but ultimately I came down on the side of the falcon doing its natural thing. So, in answer to your question, I hope the wolves are and remain safe and that the bunnies and squirrels run fast.
