Donald Trump rally draws 20,000 white people in mostly black Alabama town

Donald Trump held one of the larger rallies of the 2016 election in Mobile Alabama on Friday night, drawing a crowd that was claimed by attendees to be as large as forty thousand in size, though the half empty venue suggests it may have been closer to twenty thousand people. The outsider candidate for President is currently the republican frontrunner, and is touting the event as a sign that his candidacy which many in the mainstream consider a joke is to be taken seriously. He posted a picture of the rally as evidence. One problem: literally everyone in the crowd is white, even though Mobile is a majority black city.

Yes, just an oversight by not completely neutral and not GOP-loving at all free press!
And don't you dare to criticize the messaging of the mass media and get things all of the script of encouraging racism and giving oxygen to a co fired racist and xenophobic that wants to imprison 11million people.
But only the "undesireables", so you white immigrants like Trump's immigrant mother can relax.

(4,113 posts)I saw the aerial photo of the venue and the stadium was only about half full.
Now, if this was a Sanders rally, would the media talking heads rave that he drew 20,000, or piss and moan that the stadium was only half-full - if they even acknowledge the Sanders rally?

(12,984 posts)You can be disgusted, derogatory, or dismissive, but the fact of the matter is a LOT of people are flocking to his candidacy. Does that validate his positions? No. But does it make him a real political force? Yes. At least for the moment.
If Trump doesn't get the nomination but his supporters retain a lot of momentum to influence the GOP candidate in the general election, then... what will that mean?
On the other hand, given what we've seen so far -- what if Trump DOES get the nomination?

(57,936 posts)I was talking to another person this morning in her late 50s, early 60s, no money and looking for a job. There aren't many if any jobs. It's a terrible situation.
The employment numbers do not capture what I am hearing and seeing out there. It's quite shocking to me. I realize that my experience is anecdotal, but it is so striking to me that so many fear for their jobs or have lost their jobs while the statistics look OK that I wonder what is wrong.
Also, bank interest rates are very low. That suggests to me that small businesses are not doing well or that banks are heavily invested in more lucrative things like derivatives. I could be wrong. Some banks charge small savers just to store their money.
I don't think our economy is nearly as good as we are told, and the Trump numbers reflect the fear and anger about it.
