Trump's favorability soars among Republicans
Source: The Hill
A new poll find Donald Trump's favorability rating soaring among Republicans, while Jeb Bush's image slides ... according to a Gallup survey released Friday.
...
But a number of candidates have seen their image slide over that time, led by Ohio Gov. John Kasich who slipped 12 points from a net favorability of 27 to 15, the biggest drop.
...
Bush had a net favorability of 25 two weeks ago and is now at 19, while Walker went from 37 to 31, each down 6.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was down 4 points. Sen. Marco Rubio (Fla.) remained steady, going up 1 point; with Mike Huckabee and Sen. Rand Paul each seeing a 2 point bump.

Here is a chart from the Gallop report:
Compare today's net favorability numbers from Gallop with net favorability from yesterday's Monmouth poll of Republicans:
Carson (67% favorable 6% unfavorable = 61% net favorability)
Trump (59% favorable 29% unfavorable = 30% net favorability)
Fiorina (43% favorable 13% unfavorable = 30% net favorability)
Walker (42% favorable 15% unfavorable = 27% net favorability)
Kasich (23% favorable 18% unfavorable = 5% net favorability)
Bush (41% favorable 39% unfavorable = 2% net favorability)
Contrast these net favorability numbers with Republicans against Monmouth's most recent net favorability polling of Democrats:
Clinton (71% favorable 17% unfavorable = 54% net favorability)
Biden (67% favorable 14% unfavorable = 53% net favorability)
Sanders (42% favorable 12% unfavorable = 30% net favorability)
OMalley (13% favorable 8% unfavorable = 5% net favorability)
CONCLUSION: Bush is in the midst of a complete free fall.

(3,557 posts)I don't think bush has a shot in hell at being president.
I'm loving the Donald Trump stuff. The more he talks the worse he makes him and his party sound. The far right continues to taint the Republicans thus making them less and less palatable to the majority of Americans.

(3,373 posts)favor Bush and it is not without any reason.

(3,261 posts)If/when Trump loses his hold on GOP voters, they will make sure Jeb is the nominee even though, as far as I can tell, right wing voters want nothing to do with him. He will be shoved down their throats and he will fare much better nationally.

His inclusion continues to muddy the Democratic polling numbers.

(3,373 posts)numbers.
Including Biden in the horse-race polls diminishes the appearance of Sanders' support. Including Biden's numbers in the net favorability polling sets up a false comparison between his numbers and Clinton's (once a candidate declares and becomes the subject of partisan attacks, every candidate's net favorabiliy falls and so contrasting post-fall Clinton's numbers with pre-fall numbers for non-candidate Biden is misleading).
With that said, I included Biden's numbers only because Monmouth included them

(10,056 posts)Rather toward the pollsters who are insisting on adding Democratic candidates to the mix who aren't even declared.
I do agree with your above statement, although I wonder if Biden's inclusion depresses Clinton rather than Sanders.

Let's just see if they will actually vote for him or if it's a "friend" thing.

(46,080 posts)I was appalled when a childhood friend was nearly giddy in 2008 about Sarah Palin. She confessed, "She looks like fun. I like her spunk." I realized we could not agree on too many fundamentals thereafter.
And wasn't it similar when California had the gubernatorial election in 2003 and too many people voted for Arnold Schwartenegger because his brand was well known and his acting career was confused with governing ability. We saw how badly that experiment worked.
Now we have Trump. TV is fun again. We can't wait to see what comes out of Trump's mouth today. Whom did he insult today with impunity? Stick with him and we'll be the Number One Country in the World indefinitely. We can go into any country and steal their natural resources. We'll get "fair" treaties because Trump will bend the will of the other parties.
This is getting ridiculous with why not only the base but now establishment republicans are lining up to support Trump. The people are the threat to democracy, not Trump.

(3,373 posts)I have always been fascinated with the role that the human psyche plays in our perceptions of ourselves and the world around us.... I mention this because it frames the discussion that I want to begin about the dimensions of the problem of race in this country, and what I see as the best approach to transcending race as an issue that divides us and prevents us from moving forward as one nation under God.

An incident in which I attempted to stab a classmate out of anger forced me to confront a dysfunctional attitude that, if unchecked, would impede my ability to succeed in school or realize my dream of one day becoming a doctor. I prayed to God to guide me in becoming more tolerant and forbearing.
There were certainly other societal and institutional dynamics that contributed to the course my life would take. My mother did, from time to time, accept welfare assistance when ends did not meet but she also worked two or three jobs and was ingeniously resourceful. And societal changes concurrent with the civil rights movement helped to break down barriers and open doors for me that might not have otherwise been available.

My view is that, rather than attempting to fight against poverty, we should be encouraging growth. The mental shift may be subtle, but it has profound implications for how we approach public policy. The assumption that people are poor grounds them in a mentality that reduces agency and creates more dependency. And more tragically, it obscures the reality that there is an abundance of opportunity that is ready for people who want to avail themselves of it.
Summary for those who don't know much about current second place Republican candidate Dr. Ben Carson but don't care enough to read his editorial on race and poverty: "References to God. I grew up poor and a bit violent. I decided not to stab people because it might hamper my ambitions. More references to God. The governmental social safety net was there for me and my family. I turned out great. Let's remove that governmental social safety net."
