In bid to get Keystone XL pipeline built faster, TransCanada shifts strategy in Nebraska

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Paul Hammel and Joe Duggan

LINCOLN — The developers of the proposed Keystone XL pipeline said Tuesday that they’re changing strategy in Nebraska in hopes of getting the project cleared for construction sooner.

A spokesman for TransCanada Corp. said the firm will withdraw land condemnation proceedings against property owners along the project route and will file a new application to build its pipeline through the Nebraska Public Service Commission.

"This is about seeking the path that we believe will allow us to build the pipeline in the most timely manner," said Mark Cooper, the company’s spokesman.

Snip: In an interview Tuesday, a leading opponent of the pipeline hailed the news as a "huge victory" for those fighting to stop the Keystone XL.

There are pipes parked and waiting for the go ahead in SD, where I have no faith in our elected to deny Keystone. Stand strong, Nebraska!!

Glad someone else noticed all the prepositioned pipe along the BNSF Rail Line. Appears to be the same stuff we found along the NoDak-Montana-Canada line two years ago. As of three weeks ago, unloading near Tea SoDak and trucking the pipe to the Pipeline staging areas.

The company was scheduled to appear at a civil trial next month in Holt County on a lawsuit brought by a group of landowners who do not want the pipeline crossing their properties. The lawsuit challenges the constitutionality of a 2012 law that allowed the company to avoid the commission and obtain approval directly from the governor.

I hope they continue with the lawsuit and keep the pipeline from being built. I want to see the little guys win for once.
