(1,859 posts)white. And asking if people were Christian sounds like he's copy-cat-ing columbine. The rumor is those shooters asked people and killed them when they said yes and laughed about it.

(10,495 posts)what his cause was if he had one! Instead of passing laws preventing collection of data about shootings, let's pass a law making it illegal to mention any of the above details about any shooter! One of the main reasons for many of these sick people to commit these horrible crimes is to be famous or promote their hate or point of view.
WE DONT NEED TO KNOW THIS CRAP!!!!!
The severity of the crime and weapons used etc., tell us all about it, but nothing that publicizes anything the shooter would want to be known. Even the NRA should not be opposed to this, but it wouldn't surprise me if they do.

(6,241 posts)do these shootings is because of the fame they think they can get. So it might not be a bad idea to deny them fame.

(15,229 posts)is to emphasize and repeat that such shootings are COWARDLY, since an infant, if armed, could kill a lot of people. But the media never do that. The most obvious message and it escapes them. I wouldn't be surprised if the 1 % would be fearful that such a long-overdue message might affect the puerile fantasy of rugged individualism of the hordes of 'gun nuts', hitting gun and ammunition sales, hard.
Anything like that character's message, provided there is no doubt about he author, should be locked away without trial - the trial is our lying eyes, as with the wanton spree of cops tasering and/or murdering innocent citizens, caught on video.
There are certain crimes that need to be dealt with the ultimate penal sanction, whatever it might be (another is abduction from the street), but ultimately - and we may now be facing the ultimate ultimatum - Pope Francis is right, because it's our Western society's Government and thereby the people, that need to be turned around through 180 degree. Sins are not hermetically sealed; one serious sin connects inescapably to others, so many sins touted as harmless are not so.

(8,175 posts)He asked if they were Christian. If they answered yes they were shot in the head. If they answered no, they were shot in the legs.
Very disturbing.

One time on the old DU, I was reading a story about honor killings in a muslim villiage, and I got muslim dating ad.
Those ads are in poor taste sometimes.

(7,886 posts)Washington Times is NOT a reliable source. Why don't people LOOK before they post links to such dreck? There must be at least 5 other better sources.

(8,175 posts)He described himself as a lover, conservative, professional, intellectual, introvert" and under his interests listed the internet, killing zombies, movies, music, reading".
Harper Mercer also said he was mixed race, did not drink and was a conservative, Republican".
I just had a recent conversation by phone with a guy who has been doing work for me (contractor) for many years. He's always been a little weird, but has always done very good work and tried to undercharge me because he knows how poor I am (and I need his help). I always pay him more than he asks for because I don't want to take advantage of his kindness.
But in the last few years he has gotten religion in a big way, and he has been very vocal about it. I informed him I'm an atheist and it doesn't deter him in the least because he's on a mission to heal and convert (very normal for a born again anything).
I've tried to ignore it, but this time is was just too much...yet I needed his help and I had to just keep quiet and try to stop him from talking.
On the phone he went on a rant about a lot of things, but one thing he said that really pissed me off was that men were not designed to stick their dick in the asses of other men. First time he ever revealed his homophobia to me, and it shook me. Instead of confronting him with something like "Well, are we designed to use our mouths on other's genitals?", and having a fight over it, I just told him I did not want to hear it.
Then when he came over to install the plumbing I needed done and before he left he started ranting about how the chemicals being dispersed in our air (contrails) were stopping rain here in America, so it would rain instead in Africa, where all these people were buying up land to grow crops to take control of the economy...OMG, I didn't even know how to respond. I told him he better not keep talking about crazy conspiracy theories, or we would just get mad at each other and he finally shut up and went home. I was trying to be kind to him, knowing he was stressed, because he just lost his dog last week.
How the hell do you deal with crazy people like this? This is what too many republicans are like. How did this happen? How did so many people in the US go nuts?

(8,175 posts)People (converts) who give up smoking, or eating or drinking or drugs are all susceptible to this. But this was crazier than most, and it's the "conservative" leaning that always seems to attract the craziest of the crazies.
And how the hell did this country become such a stronghold for conservative crazies?...that's what I want to know. Or is is just that they are now in the minority and screaming louder out of fear of being drowned out? Because they are really starting to freak me out.

(8,175 posts)Like when my sister became a scientologist...OMG...it was torture until she finally got wise and dumped them. But it was years of torture.
I will say though, that some personalities are more in tuned to zealotry than others. She may not be a Scientologist any more, but she is still trying to convert everyone to everything she believes in. She is also a conservative and now a religious (spiritual?) nut.

(509 posts)he should only be known as the dead shooter. Do not spread his name, leave him nameless. Let's not do a deep proctological exam of his acts. Let us remember the victims and forget forever the name of this scum.
