One person has been killed and three others wounded in a fight that escalated into a shooting near a Greek-life dorm at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz.

The suspected gunman — 18-year-old freshman Steven Jones — is in custody, NAU Police Chief Greg Fowler said. The injured survivors are being treated at Flagstaff Medical Center.

“We awake this morning to a terrible tragedy,” university president Rita Cheng said at a news conference. Cheng called the shooting “an isolated and unprecedented incident.”

Students still expected in class? Nothing to see here, just the daily gun carnage, we will get custodial staff to immediately wipe the blood off the dorm room floors and walls. Never mind the yellow police tape and the massive trauma to everyone......go back to class?

"Isolated" and "unprecedented" death and carnage and blood-letting by gun at schools and campuses and just about everywhere else is.....isolated and unprecedented in Gunistan? Denial is strong in this one!

Did the President of this northern Arizona campus just awake from a 30 year slumber?

Only ONE dead? This ain't even worth readin' about. 'nother edoocashun insatooshun - 'nother blast-o send-o.

On the serious side, this has got to be makin' Wayne Lapierre froth with delight. Imagine all the parents of students makin' sure their kids are packin' when they send them off to college.
The upside is that once they graduate the gunsite gauntlet and find there's no jobs, they'll be partly pre-qualified for a military career!

One person has been killed and three others wounded = A slight isolated, unprecedented, very rare, never to happen again in a million years, something that could have happened to just about anyone, a very curious accident, extremely not very normal incident.

Yes siree. Mighty fine.

Without guns, everyone would probably be alive with some bruises had they fought it out. Now one is dead, 3 wounded and one likely to spend a long time in jail and have the rest of their life ruined. Yay Guns!

Chicago bangers will tell the namby pamby college boys, watch what real bangin is like as they go into a holiday weekend that will probably see double digit deaths and over 50 wounded. Difference will be their shootings only get a blurb after the weekend from the tribune and no candlelight vigils or groups in a circle with candles singing koombaya or any TV coverage or Obama visits for the grieving families.

My Lord.

I agree with you, though. Obama should go visit the grieving families in Chicago - if there is an equivalent tragedy there, but those shootings come in 1's and 2's, not 9, 30, 15, etc.

Maybe a combined event with every victim's family from a weekend? Fox would have an aneurysm.

This incident certainly sounds like one that would have ended with, at worst, a broken nose had it happened when I was in school. I was involved in some of that stupid, drunken behavior from time to time.... thank God guns weren't as prevalent then.
