I understand that hunting fees are used often for conservation, but the particulars of this "hunt" still make me sick.

He paid his money and followed the process to have a legal hunt. His guides were the ones who broke the law and lured a protected lion to the hunt location.

He is no better or worse than any of the other thousands who pay big bucks to legally murder a rare animal.

was a common way of hunting. which is bullshit. You can't use salt to hunt here in the US, and you shouldn't be able to use lures like that when hunting lions.

You really have to ignore the (native) guide's narrative to pin the actions you describe on the (Western, white) hunter.

This was actually fairly obvious. The claim was the papers were in order. That the guide that done something a bit suspicious--according to the guide's own account. Claims came from others not involved, after the media circus and vigilante mob was formed and frothing at the mouth.

The only thing that led to assuming that the (native) guide was lying and the (white) patron was also lying was the fervent, overwhelming, psychologically imperative need to believe that an internally consistent tale was a lie in order to pin all the blame on the (white, wealthy) patron. That this need automatically assumed that only those with no information held the unbridled truth is embarrassing. For me. Makes me want to wear a t-shirt that points to either side and says, "I don't know them."

Once you get past race- and class-induced blindness and prejudice-induced self-righteous wrath, there wasn't much more to discuss. That was the basis of the media outrage, the populist outrage, and, well, there's a really huge story there but there's a fervent, overwhelming, psychologically imperative need to say there isn't because it doesn't fit the narrative.

One thing about confirmation bias it that it's pretty inured to attacks, and turns the full critical thinking apparatus against refutations of confirmation bias. (As Feynman famously said, the easiest person to deceive is yourself. Tell that to 100 people and barely 1 will agree with such an obvious truth.)

and for him to be cleared of this matter, is quite disingenuous to the community as a whole.

This "man (dentist) sat at that table" and was told what the guide was going to do, and how that country will deal with this issues----------------this is no if's , and's or but's about this issue.
He and others will will now think it will be swept under the carpet-------------------it will not.

Then this was said by this minister;

'All the papers were in order" for American to hunt, Environment Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri says

Was this minster at this table-------------------you bet he was, he knows what is going on in his country and around the world and he is also corrupt, it's just that he and the entire nation of both continents and around the world are really upset.
He(the minister) has the means and the money to stop this stuff, but no, he also turns a blind eye based on greed.

who, as a one percenter, thinks he can buy whatever he wants.

a real hunter would not want to hunt this way.

but palmer is not a hunter. he is a penisless trophy murdering psycho scumbag who has to pay big money to trick himself into believing he is a real man.

They acted hastily, because there was a very nice media firestorm. Fast thinking.

Then they had time to think about all sorts of things, discuss it, have people pull files and check and cross-check paperwork. Slow thinking.

Fast thinking loses for accuracy and reliability to slow thinking pretty much always. The gut has precious few neurons and fails utterly at metacognition.

Extradite Minnesotan Walter James Palmer to face justice in Zimbabwe.

Well, Mr. President, that certainly got through loud and clear.... NOT.

I guess Extraordinary Rendition applies to the King of Beasts, too.

It makes me ill to think that he'll be able to put Cecil's head on his wall now.
