Ben Carson, Ted Cruz pay visits to metro as both rise in Iowa polls

COUNCIL BLUFFS The No. 1 and No. 3 candidates in the GOP presidential race in Iowa appeared on both sides of the Missouri River on Friday.
Ben Carson hawked his best-selling book in Omaha while Ted Cruz bragged about his cash advantage on the campaign trail in neighboring Council Bluffs.
Cruz, who has surged to third place in Iowa, had more cash in the bank at the end of last month than one-time Republican front-runner Jeb Bush. It was a fact Cruz was eager to share with the 200 people assembled at his town hall meeting, which began at the exact same time Carson was speaking in Omaha.
If I had told you six months ago that we were going to have $3.5 million more in the bank than Jeb Bush, youd have said I was bark-at-the-moon crazy, said Cruz, who worked the crowd like a traveling preacher in jeans and cowboy boots.
