Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg marries long-time girlfriend Priscilla Chan in a surprise ceremony
Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has ended a hectic week which saw his company valued at £106bn after a stock market flotation by getting married.
He wed his long-time girlfriend Priscilla Chan, 27, in a ceremony at his home in Palo Alto, California.
Chan also had a busy week, graduating from medical school on Monday, as Zuckerberg marked his 28th birthday.
The guests believed they were going to celebrate Chan's graduation - but found they were at a wedding instead.

(5,954 posts)half the 20 billion would have been hers automatically. Marrying her a day after he made $20 000 000 000, she can't claim that the money was earned WHILE they were married. (I'm thinking he learned this by watching Jennifer Lopez. That time she married her personal trainer, earned $20 000 000, then divorced him nine months later, and he got half. Being paid $10 million to have sex with JLo for nine months? Nice work if you can get it. Zuckerburg, on the other hand....she'd definitely be earning it. But she wouldn't have earned it half as painfully as that woman who's going to marry Rupert Murdoch.)

Go on, say the word you want to call her. You know you're itching to.

Well, she still stands to clean up after taxes even if he told the US tax system to kiss his tax goodbye

They're both ad spammers at their core, but only one has true competition.
Google+, btw, is universally considered to be a ghost town. Google is paying celebrities to use it. It's not making a difference.

On his California return as well as federal.
While we're facing a $16 billion, with a B, budget gap.
And even at that, he isn't the real villain; that'd be his henchman who renounced his U.S. citizenship right before the IPO.

I think it speaks well of the both of them that they had a simple ceremony in his backyard. They could have had a cast of thousands. And he could have had just about any glamour wannabe model on the planet. Good on him for sticking with the one who's been with him all these years.
Good luck to them.

(101,307 posts)It says in the story they met at Harvard 9 years ago - before Facebook ever started. She was just a fellow student.
Maybe since about a third of the world's women can be categorised as 'Asian', it's not surprising to find a few "rich white guys" dating or marrying them. How many rich white guys can you name? How many white women do you think they have dated or married?

(12,022 posts)I just find it sociologically interesting.
And yes, I should have said "of Asian extraction," because "Asian" doesn't refer to nationality, only to race.
Also interesting to note that Asian/White couples have the highest incomes in the US:
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/16/us/pew-study-americans-more-accepting-of-interracial-marriage.html
I just wonder about this phenomenon.
As an aside, when I was in high school, I was told by my (white) boyfriend that he could never marry me because I would "hurt his business prospects" since I was a minority. I have to laugh about it now, because I've out-earned him many times over.
(p.s., minorities ALWAYS notice race. Only white people claim it's "sad" that race is ever noticed.)

I'm just interested in the recent phenomenon that makes interracial relationships more and more acceptable (and it's especially apparent because these are wealthy people in the news), which is so different from when I was growing up.
It used to be that marrying outside one's race really did have a stigma attached to it, to the point that parents forbade their children to marry because it would destroy their prospects of success. I had one friend who was left at the altar because her rich white boyfriend's mother told him she'd disinherit him if he married a "chink". The jerk cared more about his inheritance than he did about his fiancee, so he didn't show up on their wedding day.
I really love seeing the high visibility of these partnerships -- it signals to the world that interracial relationships are not only acceptable, but are being practiced by people who have every choice in the world.

(89,247 posts)wealthy when he started dating Chan . she was with him for years before he got money. they are also the same age.
also the white guy asian girl couple thing is pretty common among all income levels.
mainer
(12,022 posts)Because it means there's visibility in the press that interracial marriages are now accepted, even among conservatives like Murdoch.
In fact, if you look at the NYT income numbers, it seems as if it's the asian half (either male or female) who brings money into the match.

(89,247 posts)for them to be with non whites longer than for white christians. probably because they were seen as outsiders also .
i also find that Australian and some european men are more open to dating/marrying outside their race than some in the united States.
