Anonymous Denies List of KKK Members after Politicians Respond

Source: Newsweek

Updated | Online hacking group Anonymous has denied responsibility for the recent publication of a list that claims some U.S. politicians belong to the Ku Klux Klan.

Last week, Anonymous said it would soon release the identities of about 1,000 members of the white supremacist organization. Anonymous is expected to release the details on Thursday, the day of the global protest movement known as the Million Mask March, in which demonstrators around the world will march in a protest against corrupt governments and corporations.

Anonymous denies it has any connection to the list of names, which was published Saturday on the website Pastebin. Most of the politicians included on the list—four Republican senators, four Democratic mayors and a Republican mayor—have denied the claims.

There is no evidence immediately apparent that confirms the details posted on the website. The posting user is identified as "Amped Attacks."...(more at link)...

It sounds a lot better to say you were caught by an orchestrated right wing conspiracy, rather than you simply fell for the first unsubstantiated nonsense posted by an anonymous person on the Internet that fed your confirmation bias.

When the repug names came out I eye rolled and thought here we go. Anybody can make up shit on the internet. Then the dem names came out. More eyerolls.

I just cannot imaging grown congressmen or politicians dancing around in wizard robes these days.
Too silly. They don't even need robes to get the job done.

No politician of any influence is going to join the Ku Klux Klan in 2015.

This isn't 1924, or 1964. The KKK as it exists today is a gauche organization of toothless hillbillies and federal informants who wield no real power in the south except as fodder for sensational documentaries and Hollywood bad guys.

Powerful Republican politicians belong to the best country clubs, golf at the most prestigious courses, eat at the nicest restaurants and hobnob with the elite 1%. They have just as much contempt for the slack-jawed, Confederate flag-waving rednecks who vote for them as they do the minorities who don't. They wouldn't be caught within 100 miles of a card-carrying Klan member, let alone sign up and pay dues.

They may be stupid but they're not that stupid.

Anonymous may have a list of 1000 names but anyone expecting Senators or Representatives amongst these names will likely be disappointed. Hell, 900 of them are probably undercover federal agents!

We're talking about hackers who's identities are unknown breaking the security of websites and stealing information. Libel would be the least of their concerns, if ever caught.
