Arkansas blast fatally burns 3 beyond recognition (oil workers)

Source: CNN

A three-man oil crew was killed in an explosion in El Dorado, Arkansas, while dismantling an abandoned containment vessel filled with residual oil vapors, the Arkansas Emergency Management said Monday.

The crew was working for the Long Brothers Oil Co. at the abandoned site when the blast occurred about 4 p.m., Arkansas EMS spokesman Chad Stover said.

"During the dismantling, there was an ignition of vapors inside one of the tanks," Stover said. "All three were killed. They were burned beyond recognition."

It was not immediately clear whether the site had an owner and what the Long Brothers' relationship was to the site, he added.

Corporate-speak for "using a torch to cut up an old tank"?

I'm from the town where this took place! I personally knew 2 of the guys! And I find it very disrespectful to post this horrible headline! These guys had young children!! What if one day these kids research this and find this tacky headline?! I'm sure if this has happened to the policy that wrote this they wouldn't want their children or family to see that headline!! It could have been left at "three die in explosion"! This is just horrific in my opinion! I have been with friends all of last night and today also with the fiance of one of the victims. It has been very hard! Very hard to sit there and listen to this poor girl talk about calling him hoping he answers or how their home isn't the same! But yet there are people out there wanting to get the "next best story" they don't consider the people affected by this horrible tragedy! Post the story.. OK..that's fine..but let's think long and hard how the headline..the first thing seen by readers..will affect someone!!! What if this was you or one of your loved ones!! CNN lost my respect! Might not matter what I think, and I'm not looking for anything from this. I'm just voicing my opinion! Also, the long brothers are very respected in this town! This was a horrible, horrible accident!!! And this company isn't worried about anything but finding out why And how this happened And also for the families of this tragedy! All the guys that work there are like family..so they all lost 3 brothers yesterday! So please think about what you post, you never know who will see it!!! Also please say a special prayer for the kids and families of these 3 hard working, brave, amazing young men!! 3 lives lost that has affected many! We love and miss these 3 guys very much!

What a horrible tragedy.
The reason you're seeing this particular wording in the headline is that DU's Latest Breaking News here has a rule that the subject line must match the headline of the article. I'm so sorry you had to see that.

When I first read the headline, I thought it was an effective way of describing how terrible the accident was, and therefore that it was being sympathetic in a way... but, of course, you're absolutely right. A headline like that must be indescribably devastating to the friends and family of the men who died... it's completely heartbreaking. I am so sorry for your and your community's loss, so sudden and so awful.

I have been seeing this headline since it happened. I just can't wrap my head around this. It doesn't seen real! I just wish CNN would have worded it differently! I wrote a comment to CNN. I just wish they thought about the ones affected by this horrible tragedy before they wrote this headline.

this is an "accident" that would never have happened with properly trained employees and supervisors. I have to wonder now, about the level of training for all the crews out running the fracking sites!
