A soccer match between Germany and the Netherlands in the German city of Hannover was suddenly canceled this afternoon and the stadium is being evacuated. CNN reports, “Police said all visitors at the Hanover stadium have been asked to calmly leave.”

According to NBC News, German Chancellor Angela Merkel was supposed to be in attendance at the friendly match alongside other top officials “to show they will not bow to terrorism.” The interim president of the German football association (DFB) Reinhard Rauball said, “For the team to play against the Dutch only a few days after the terrible experiences in Paris is a necessary signal.”

Security measures were reportedly increased for today’s match after the terror attacks in Paris Friday night that included coordinated blasts outside of Stade de France.

Same thing will happen to them as to people crossing Canadian border to US after Sept. 11, 2001 ... which is to say that your friends will suffer no injuries from a terrorist act.

They may however be inconvenienced.

While visiting their son. Who is a musician and always at clubs with crowds of people. Ugh. I know the odds are in their favor but I am sure the people who died in Paris last week felt the same way. What can I say, I am a worrier.

We humans are pretty bad at running the show. It may be time for an alien intervention. With Gort and Klaatu.

German officials say no explosives have been found and no arrests made in Hanover, Reuters reports. Earlier, a football match there between Germany and the Netherlands was cancelled because of a "concrete threat".

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/world-europe-34840858

At a press conference in Hanover, German interior minister Thomas de Maizière said that the decision to call off the match had been made after “an increase in tip-offs in the early evening”, but refused to comment further on the source and extent of the threat, writes my colleague Philip Oltermann.

According to German news agency DPA, the information about a planned Islamist attack had come from a foreign intelligence service.
...
“It was an extremely tough decision to cancel the match which was made after many pieces of information indicated a concrete threat”, de Maizière said.
...
The interior minister for Lower Saxony, Boris Pistorius, said that no arrests had been made so far, and said he could not confirm a report in a local newspaper that explosives had been found in an ambulance outside the stadium.
