(1,145 posts)is something similar to The Onion and this headline was posted by a Hillary supporter to mock real hip-hop star Killer Mike's endorsement of Bernie. If there really is a "Bun B", I've never heard of him and I grew up listening to anyone who could possibly be considered a "hip-hop legend" at this point in time.
Hillary used hateful racism against Obama during her failed bid for the presidency, and I hope most Black voters will remember that instead of reflexively picking Hillary because she's familiar. She doesn't respect the Black community and she's ignoring us because she arrogantly thinks we're going to vote for her because of who she is. She thought that in 2008 and she saw what happened.

Bun B was one-half of the influential duo UGK from Port Arthur, Texas, and has since achieved major acclaim and success as a solo artist. Freeman is also an educator at the prestigious Rice University in Houston, Texas.
Bun B hasnt been a total stranger to politics. In 2008 he endorsed Barack Obama for President and has done several PSAs including: in 2009 for a Senate Runoff Election in Port Arthur, an anti-littering campaign in Galveston, and a no texting while driving initiative in Houston with Mayor Annise Parker.

(1,145 posts)the Underground Kings (a group many have heard of but probably won't call "legends"
might have been a little better than saying "Bun B". Many of young hip-hop fans have probably never heard of UGK, but then I don't particularly know what kids are listening to these days.

(640 posts)He made his fame as a rapper, but he's done amazing work within the Houston community. Now he's also a professor at Rice University.

(1,333 posts)Jay Z's "Big pimpin" video. He is only a legend to people who don't only follow mainstream hip hop.
Now please avoid posting his lyrics. Nobody is actually thinking about doing any of the things said in the his songs. The problem is that I am not sure if this actually helps or hurts Bernie.

Those outside of that controlled iTunes approved world, know who he and others supporting Sanders are.
It will help him, especially with young PoC.

(8,352 posts)has been around since the late 1980's.
Yeah, Millennials and Post Millennials may not know him because they are too busy loving on auto-tunes, West, and the Iggy Azalea/Azalia Banks feud.
But those of us who know of the convergence of hip hop, activism, and politics are well aware of Bun B, Killer Mike, etc.
So yes, this is a good and important endorsement to me as a PoC, into Hip Hop, and supporting Sanders.
