Always a colorful dude. At the time, it still seemed a Logan's Run remake was imminent...

(5,752 posts)I was in the Green Room at LosCon.
I still remember the early San Diego Comic Con days, when they would hold planning meetings up in Los Angeles, that George came and told the planners that Comic Con had too many things other than comics, and they should call the convention something that expressed the diversity of interests. He suggested renaming it "Synergistic Convergence."*
*George smoked a LOT of weed.

So before the San Diego Con became the Super Bowl of pop culture, they used to plan it in L.A., eh?

(12,977 posts)They say the end is near but that "sources close to the family" say he's still alive and that Deadline and Variety have both issued retractions. If you go to Google News and click on the Deadline link with an obit, you get a Page Not Found message.
That's all I know.
On edit: Found a post at Facebook, posted by Greg Koudoulian and dated four hours ago.

Just got news from Paul, of Son George Clayton Johnson. No news today from George's doctors. He is cheating his journey to the next dimension as in so many of his story's! Merry Christmas to George the fighter and my friend, adviser and mentor for 43 years. We all love you!

I usually go by IMDB for writers, actors, etc because they wait for a few days before posting a death. This seems to be what they've done.

(12,977 posts)That has now been taken down.
The person who pasted on Facebook has known Johnson for forty years and is in contact with his son. What more do you need?

(15,406 posts)All other sources have said he died, like IMDB.
What has been taken down?

(12,977 posts)Here's the history edit page of the entry on Johnson:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=George_Clayton_Johnson&action=history
It shows multiple edits today. It looks like people kept adding a death date and more knowledgeable people kept double-checking and deleting.
The most recent revision has the note, "Death notices have been removed from 'Variety' and other sites, so apparently initial reports were wrong."
Another further down says, "Not dead, per son and agency."
And another, "Manager has confirmed he is not dead; the few reports stating otherwise are based on an erroneous Facebook post."
And below that, "I'm going to say this one more time - I don't care who is reporting what. This great man is still living and fighting for his life. It is a great disrespect to the family to continue to use the death date."
