Syrian army being aided by Iranian forces

Source: Guardian

A senior commander in Iran's Revolutionary Guards has admitted that Iranian forces are operating in Syria in support of Bashar al-Assad's regime.
Ismail Gha'ani, the deputy head of Iran's Quds force, the arm of the Revolutionary Guards tasked with overseas operations, said in an interview with the semi-official Isna news agency: "If the Islamic republic was not present in Syria, the massacre of people would have happened on a much larger scale."
Isna published the interview at the weekend but subsequently removed it from its website.
It quoted Gha'ani as saying: "Before our presence in Syria, too many people were killed by the opposition but with the physical and non-physical presence of the Islamic republic, big massacres in Syria were prevented."

2. US countermeasures in place

.....Obama has steered clear of public discussion about military action against the Assad regime, saying that conditions in Syria are different from those in Libya. For a start, Russia is a major diplomatic obstacle to military action or even much stronger sanctions although it backed the UN security council condemnation of Damascus on Sunday, suggesting there are limits to the protection it is prepared to offer.

If it were the Telegraph, the Daily Mail, or the American MSM that would be different, but I trust the Guardian.

5. the Guardian is certainly not a "left-wing" paper

Things really need to be called by their proper names sometimes! Though Rush Limbaugh and his fellow travelers may see "liberal" and "commie" and everyone in between as exactly the same stuff, there are differences.. if generalization is necessary, call it a center-left establishment paper. And if anything, its slide to the right has been rather marked over the last few years, particularly on display during the massive public relations run-up to the NATO invasion of Libya. Every commercial media source should be viewed critically--even selective incredulity on especially these subjects seems an unwise approach..

It is good to see that cheap smears and cheaper lies is still the best you have to offer.

That's a tightly packed load of weak bullshit and you know it. Who do you think you are to make such sloppy comments based on what you know to be no evidence at all? You and your friend Bush would approve (PWNED BY L33T IRONY LOL), but I do not.

First: I invite you to cite any specific reference from me in support of my little buddy. There were a lot of discussions here at the time and since, and I probably wrote something in a fair lot of them, so I invite you to cite anything at all to support what you think is an effective smear. I happen to know that you will find nothing, but you will still have to work for it first. While my written submissions on the subject of the eccentric self-appointed Colonel are quite nuanced (perhaps a concept slightly beyond the capabilities of certain of my readers), they are indeed completely bereft of any direct and loving support in his direction. Failing that, you should admit your mistake and retract your statements. Apologies are not accepted, so need not be offered;--learning from your mistake and not repeating it is a more appreciated display of contrition than any insincere combination of the letters y, o, r, and s.

Secondly, and now that I have the cowardly, but apparently acceptable, personal attack addressed: this is really not a refutation of what I wrote above anyway. You didn't even try! Do you not agree that things should be referred to with a proper description? I know your buddy Bush doesn't think so, but I do. Generally speaking, The Guardian(C) is a liberal/establishment commercial business and should be considered accordingly. Not rejected for that reason, but not accepted uncritically either just because of its alleged ideological bent. The fact that it has slided incrementally more to the conservative establishment viewpoint on certain subjects could be debated; you didn't even try to.
