Cool-headed diplomacy, personal contacts, ad homiem relations prevent potentially dangerous incidents
Cool-headed diplomacy

Trigger-happy politicians - both in the US and in Iran - could very easily escalate such incidents to dangerous levels especially when the regional powers have become incessantly divisive against their own best interests.

Cool-headed diplomacy, personal contacts, ad hominem relations - today evident between Kerry and Zarif - are the key factors preventing potentially dangerous incidents.

It is great to hear a comment like that from a Sunni news source - essentially praising the foreign ministers of both Iran and the US. It makes me think about all the stories of Kerry calling both Saudi Arabia and Iran - after the execution of the cleric and the burning of the SA embassy in Iran.

All the articles that were skeptical that Kerry's strong relationships build over his career make a real difference really begin to look rather foolish when it is clear that he has sealed deals thought impossible and has quietly acted to keep things calm.

I'm so glad that everyone acted rationally in this case.

I'm beginning to think that the US and Iran are beginning to synergize due to the increasing threat of Wahhabi Sunni militancy coming out of and financed by Saudi Arabia.

And have. They were released promptly so what is your point?

But yes, synergize. There are obviously areas where or countries' interests intersect.

If the administration had bothered to listen to them, we would have been at war with Iran this morning. Especially distasteful was the Republican talker John Heidleman on MSNBC, he posed himself as the expert because his wife was ex-Navy. I don't care for Chris Mathews but he jumped all over Heidleman. The other one who was out of control was Ted Cruz. I shudder to think about him being our President.
