Trump overshadows Romney with 'birther' talk

Source: CBS News

LAS VEGAS — Mitt Romney's presidential campaign collided with Donald Trump's "birther" rhetoric on Tuesday as the reality television star hosted a fundraiser for the Republican while claiming again that President Barack Obama is foreign-born.

(snip)

"A lot of people do not think it was an authentic certificate," Trump told CNN of Obama's birth certificate, just hours before he was set to host Romney's finance event at the Trump International Hotel in Las Vegas.

Such allegations have been repeatedly proven false. The state of Hawaii recently re-affirmed that Obama was born there.

Trump's comments, repeated in several media interviews Tuesday, overshadowed Romney's visit to Nevada, one of a handful of swing states expected to decide the presidential contest in November. Trump also upstaged news from Texas that Romney had collected enough delegates to clinch the Republican presidential nomination.

this isn't about "birthers" it's about the battle of massive egos.

trumps failing is: he always needs to be at the center of attention and he will do that no matter what, even if it upstages the person he's "helping".

I predict trump will be given a backseat very soon and will vanish from the campaign in 3 months when it finally occurs to him that he's the one not running for president. LOL

Ugh. From his arrogance, to his lies, and even his gross hair, this man lives in an alternate universe where everything is "all Donald". He's a joke...

These people with billions are assholes. Their money and opinions draw me closer to our President. Give us a break from the billionaires and John McCain while your at it, their opinion means very little to us regular folk.

"Pretending to run for president, Trump made birtherism his big issue, and ultimately Obama responded by prevailing on the state of Hawaii to release his long-form birth certificate – a truly sad moment for this country, when the overwhelmingly elected president, a black man, has to show a nasty rich white guy his papers."

So true.

Romney is too unaware to realize how he is being used by Trump. Trump said, "A lot of people think I am a really smart guy." He is the most arrogant man in the public square.

My apologies to pigs.

Every time the media talks about Trump and his birther outburst, they follow up with the assertion that Romney believes the President was born a US citizen.

It doesn't matter if it is local news or one of the networks, the message is exactly the same.

Romney just wants to make sure he gets it both ways, the money/support of the Donald and the distance from him without denying him.

Donald Trump is the best friend that we could possibly have. We need to promote his views and make him stick to Romney as much as possible. I want Trump to be the dog poop on the bottom of Romney's shoes, stinking up the place, making everyone think Romney hasn't bathed.
