Veteran journalist Ed Schultz returns to primetime on RT America

Source: RT America

Progressive political journalist Ed Schultz is joining RT America as the host of a primetime news show. “The News with Ed Schultz” will explore the issues that most affect working Americans, particularly within the context of the upcoming US presidential election.

The new journalistically based show, which will air at 8 pm ET on weeknights, will present the facts of the day, cutting through the issues the mainstream media seems to ignore.

“There is a fight for the heart and soul of our country right now. The effort to deliver healthcare to all Americans is a constant political fight I don’t believe the country can afford to lose,” Schultz said. “The corporate effort to ship jobs overseas threatens the middle class in America and every American should be concerned about that. My show will focus on these crucial issues.”

The show will contain more information and straight news in more depth than his previous work, he added.

Was is phobia that put Pussy Riot and unknown numbers of other political prisoners in jail? Do gays who live in fear of the anti-gay laws just feel phobic? And the same for the victims of Kremlin-run neo-Nazi death squads?

Shame on you for using such a term.

... of making our CORPORATE CORRUPT FAKE news that comes out of our other American owned media. I worry FAR MORE about Americans being propagandized by just about ALL of our corporate owned media than I do about RT. Now perhaps some of the RT news shows that hire American reporters directly before they made a name outside of RT might be news we need to look at with a grain of salt, but I trust people like Thom Hartmann, Ed Schultz, and Larry King on that network, because RT would be STUPID to try and tell them what to say or do, when they are already accomplishing RT's goal of making our media look bad more visibly (WHICH SHOULD BE DONE, BUT IS HARD TO DO when just about the only other networks that are on our media systems that do so are on FSTV, LINK TV who aren't funded as much or some other foreign networks like Al Jazeera). If they were found to have been even trying to alter these hosts' messages, then they would destroy that objective and they know it.

I wonder if RT would put the Young Turks on too, so that they can rejoin Ed Schultz as former MSNBC hosts.

Full Article, 'Veteran Journalist Ed Schultz Returns to Primetime on RT America', Jan. 14, 2016.

My show will focus on these crucial issues.” The show will contain more information and straight news in more depth than his previous work, he added.

The veteran broadcaster, who was described by Politicususa’s Jason Easley as “a much needed liberal voice in a sea of cable news conservatives,” thinks RT America is the perfect spot for his new show.
“Ed Schultz is one of the best-known and well-respected progressive commentators in America,” Margarita Simonyan, RT’s editor in chief, said in a statement. “With Ed helming a show, we are continuing the tradition of collaborating with top international journalistic talent that engages our audience by providing in-depth coverage, analysis and commentary on important but underreported issues to millions of US viewers.”

Schultz is a graduate of Minnesota State University Moorhead, where as a football player he led the nation in passing and achieved All-American status as a quarterback. He began his broadcasting career more than two decades ago as a sportscaster in Fargo, North Dakota. In the 1990s, he expanded the focus of his radio show to include politics. “The Ed Schultz Show” became syndicated nationwide. As a broadcaster, Schultz has covered some of the biggest events in American history. He reported on the September 11, 2001 terror attacks from Capitol Hill, providing a unique perspective as the day unfolded by speaking with some of the biggest political names of the day on the spot and in the moment. He was on the ground in Gulfport, Mississippi in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, and is one of the few broadcasters in the country ever to do a show from Cuba.

Until recently he hosted “The Ed Show” on MSNBC. The long-running program was “a precious show that... meant a tremendous amount to an awful lot of working people and just an awful lot of Americans for whom there aren’t a lot of voices, there aren’t a lot of vehicles by which their concerns, their fears and their growth as human beings can be reflected in a show,” journalist John Nichols said on the final episode. Schultz has won three Eric Sevareid Awards, managed a broadcast team that won two Marconi Radio Awards and a Peabody Award, and has been named one of the top 10 radio hosts in the country by Talkers Magazine for several years. He will work out of the RT America’s studios in Washington, DC starting January 25.

"A few days ago in a DC convenient store the clerk said “Ed! Where’ve you been? We need you back giving us the real news.” That’s the best welcome one can ask for in Washington. I’m thrilled to get started,” Schultz said.

They already think liberals and progressives are commies as it is.

Guess he didn't make enough money from all his property in North Dakota with oil that he used to rave about on Air America not that long ago. I liked his union views, but never trusted his sincerity to truly liberal causes as I do Rachel.

Hope his wife is s doing well

Anyone who calls it "Putin propaganda" has obviously never seen RT. All their hosts have full editorial control over their broadcasts and none of their guests are told what they can or cannot say, which is more than can be said for US corporate news outlets.

The knee JERK reaction in DU has been abominable in some.
It still smarts how Abby Martin was dismissed by many when she had her own show on there. One of the most passionate pioneers of anti-corporate push back who was not afraid to take on the big interests. But but but but ....she was on RT, so that meant everything she said was directly from Putin's mouth!

I hope now with Thom and Ed on, people will start to understand the arms length approach they have. Who cares if there are not stories slamming Putin on RT? I can go anywhere else for that. How much of our own network news were slamming Bush on his call to invade Iraq?

MSM news organizations are virtually all lying and distorting facts for their corporate owners and for Republican political interests. Free Speech TV, Al Jazeera America and RT America have a much more truthful Progressive
Democrat message.

Many of the people who are posting xenophobic comments on this thread are DNC/Corporatist DINO's who don't understand or care about the concerns of poor and middle class working people. Ed Shultz is a breath of fresh air and will be an asset to RT America.

I welcome him back, RT or not. Whatever his opinion, he voices it strong and unwavering.

How Cold War-Hungry Neocons Stage Managed RT Anchor Liz Wahl’s Resignation
Posted on Mar 19, 2014

The “Freedom selfie” from James Kirchick’s Twitter feed.

By Max Blumenthal and Rania Khalek

"Behind the coverage of Wahl’s dramatic protest, a cadre of neoconservatives was celebrating a public relations coup. Desperate to revive the Cold War, head off further cuts to the defense budget and restore the legitimacy they lost in the ruins of Iraq, the tightknit group of neoconservative writers and stewards had opened up a new PR front through Wahl’s resignation. And they succeeded with no shortage of help from an ossified media establishment struggling to maintain credibility in an increasingly anarchic online news environment. With isolated skeptics branded as useful idiots for Putin, the scene has been kept clean of neoconservative fingerprints, obscuring their interest in Wahl’s resignation and the broader push to deepen tensions with Russia.

Through interviews with six current RT employees—all Americans with no particular affection for Russian President Vladimir Putin or his policies—and an investigation into the political forces managing the spectacle, a story has emerged that stands in stark contrast to the one advanced by Wahl, her supporters and the mainstream American press.

It is the story, according to former colleagues, of an apolitical, deeply disgruntled employee seeking an exit strategy from a job where, sources say, she was disciplined for unprofessional behavior and had been demoted. Wahl did not return several voice and text messages sent to her cellphone.

At the center of the intrigue is a young neoconservative writer and activist who helped craft Wahl’s strategy and exploit her resignation to propel the agenda of a powerful pro-war lobby in Washington.

The story began at 5:07 p.m. Eastern time on March 5.

PR From PNAC 2.0

It was a full 19 minutes before Wahl resigned. Inside the offices of the Foreign Policy Initiative, a neoconservative think tank in Washington D.C., a staffer logged on to the group’s Twitter account to announce the following:"

If the Kremlin is about forcing Thom Hartmann to do their bidding they are doing a horrible job of it. Such silly fear mongering. The truth is that corporate news will dump you or not hire you if you veer too populist....as in Cenk, Ed, and Keith Olbermann.

If Russia will foot the bill so be it.....and I am no fan of Putin's Russia.

but RT seems to let hosts do their thing without any interference or suggestion, unlike corporate networks. During the cold war I was a ham radio operator, talked to many Soviet hams. The FCC called it promoting international goodwill during a time when governments were threatening each other with nukes. I knew then that most Soviets liked everything about the US from our music to our clothing. Since the Unions collapse and later economic collapse attitudes changed to more nationalist views. That is why Putin still holds power, he uses right wing scare tactics, much like the GOP and blue dog dems.

Fri Jan 15, 2016, 09:21 AM
Jan 2016

he was willing to tailor his message to be safe for the interests of the corporate media ownership he would be working for.

The left is given no platform by the MSM, just the corporate wing of our party and all manner of RW crazies, 'cause those two groups pose no threat to corporate profits on issues such as trade, resource extraction, foreign wars, military and paramilitary activites, police state, surveillance, incarceration, personal freedoms (business freedoms are all the rage though), and the intersection of climate change to energy policy and externalized (not financially accounted for) environmental damage caused by all of the above.

Stay on the right side of those issues, go to the gym regularly to look sharp, smile just right, read the prompter, and you'll go far in the MSM.

I welcome people like Ed getting their message out on any platform whatsoever, any crack in the corporate firewall is an opportunity to voice opposition positions.

A few might be RW trolls, but the corporatist wing of our own party and of DU makes it their mission in life to disparage anyone apppearing on RT as being allies, enablers, or propagandists for Putin.

The truth is, they may not like Putin, but what they really don't like is the non-corporate left. They'd rather people like Hartmann and Ed Schultz be silenced, don't want anyone stirring up the people with ideas of single payer or oppoosition to the TPP, etc. It took me a long time to be that cynical about the DLC wing of our party, but in many cases that's exactly where they're coming from.

Most people here have probably seen this very recent Ed rant on TYT, anyone that hasn't might want to check it out:

I can imagine RT allowing rants like that. MSNBC, CNN, FIX, ABC, CBS, NBC, no chance. PBS, only in very narrowly carved out niche shows that have long prior institutional history, such as Democracy Now (if Ed was oon that show it would just be as a guest). Otherwise, forget about it, no room for left news and opinion.

So I welcome his new show on RT. Hartmann's show there is worth watching, though the RW'ers they have on that show are too painful so I can't always watch it.

Funny, Ed always looked Russian to me, widow's peak and all.
