Pastor Accused of Raping, Impregnating Teen Skips Flight: Police

A Chester County, Pennsylvania, pastor wanted on charges he raped and impregnated a teen girl skipped his flight home from Ecuador but is still expected to surrender to police this weekend, according to police.

Jacob Malone, who lived in Exton, has been in Ecuador as allegations have come to light that he raped a girl while working at Calvary Fellowship Church in Downingtown, said police.

"What he did is horrible," said pastor Bill Bateman. "We're hurting over it, the church is hurting over it, we're hurting for his wife and kids, and, of course, the young lady."

Malone, 33, was scheduled to board a plane in Ecuador Thursday but he rescheduled for a weekend flight, said police.

It's so much fun to do it to others
But if it were done to a group the person associated with they'd be outraged and all hurt

I have lived in Salt Lake City and here in the Bible Belt. People are just people. Some are really terrible and others are really good.

I don't talk religion with anyone. It's too explosive.

When it comes to sexual assaults you find it in every population. Something like 4 percent of the population are pedophiles. They are very good at finding places where they can prey on children. It can be youth ministers or daycare workers or Boyscout leaders.

I know a lot of really nice religious people who really try to make a difference in the lives of the poor or disadvantaged. And I know some real assholes.

You just can't paint it with a wide brush.

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/our-humanity-naturally/201103/misinformation-and-facts-about-secularism-and-religion

"Of the top 50 safest cities in the world, nearly all are in relatively non-religious countries."

"And within America, the states with the highest murder rates tend to be the highly religious, such as Louisiana and Alabama, but the states with the lowest murder rates tend to be the among the least religious in the country, such as Vermont and Oregon."

"atheists are very much under-represented in the American prison population (only 0.2%)."

" a 1999 Barna study that finds that atheists and agnostics actually have lower divorce rates than religious Americans."

"another study, in Canada, that found conservative Christian women experienced higher rates of domestic violence than non-affiliated women."

This is a link to the study the article references.

Thanks for posting them
It is interesting research and the authors raise some really good points.

I do have a question and some qualms

1. Why do you equate crimes in cities with corruption? I'll admit I didn't read the entire article yet. But, I didn't see any reference to corruption and religious belief. (I could have missed it) The first poster said religious people are the most corrupt. And you are using the research to support that contention

2. The article is from 2009. I have problems with the way the authors dealt with Asian countries and Atheism. They seemed to be cherry picking when it comes to this region of the world (I live in Korea). In the case of China, they are using the research that chows the lowest numbers of Chinese being Atheist (I wonder if it's because it aids their research). Yet, the most recent surveys and research (2013) show China at between 45-49% according to the CSM, Gallup and C.P.

3. In Vietnam, over half the population claims to be non-believers. Though the article does mention it in relation to societal well being and are correct that the dictatorship makes it a safer, yet less friendly society, mentioning that it has a rather high percentage who claim to be non-believers and not just the government would have been preferred.

4. In the case of Korea and Japan, which the research uses to bolster its argument about non-believers, more than two-thirds of the population still participate in ancestor worship on some level. Come to Korea when it's Chuseok and see the numbers of people leaving offering on their ancestors graves. The group that probably least participates in ancestor worship in Korea are probably Protestants.
It's likely in some families they are going through the motions because of societal norms, it's what they grew up doing or they are appeasing a relative/relatives (I have several friends that do one or a combination of these. I've always done it and it makes grandma happy. Kind of like going to church when you visit the family)

It's an interesting piece of research. The authors do mention that the lack of satisfying explanations for some things.

Thanks for sharing

Jake Malone
Pastor of Leadership Development
E-Mail: jmalone@cfdowningtown.com
Pastor Jake runs on an internal octane that most of us can only dream of. While he executes more tasks in a single day than most people do in an entire month, he manages to also care deeply for people and show them the love of Christ. But that's not all! He is also likely to surprise you with the gift of a lint roller. Or steal your camera and leave a delightful shot of his goofiest face on your photos. Pastor Jake and his wife Libby can (and do) jump into any area of ministry, win the hearts of everyone in the room, and then make you wish you could go live with them so the fun wouldn't end. If you don't want to be completely inspired, then stay out of their way!

His first thought was of the church and his last, obviously tacked on thought, for the victim. Quite obvious he didn't intend to mention her at all at first.
