It took the Democratic National Committee around six months to give in to pressure, but give in it has: There will be more debates.
The Democratic National Committee said on Sunday that it would meet with the campaigns on Tuesday to further discuss details of additional debates before announcing an official schedule. A debate on Thursday, ahead of the New Hampshire primary on Feb. 9, is expected to be sanctioned and sponsored by MSNBC, and the campaigns have been in talks about holding additional debates in March, April and May.
PLUS theres another town hall event on CNN on Wednesday night.
All very well, but we didnt need more debates so much as we needed the planned debates to be on weeknights rather than on holiday or holiday-adjacent weekends. Adding debates this late in the gameeven by the already planned March 9 debate, 21 states plus American Samoa and Democrats Abroad will have voted, and by April 1 12 more states and the Marianas will have votedis about half as useful as changing the dates of two or three earlier debates would have been.

(58,724 posts)They basically repeat the same thing every time. Little to no new ground is broken at these things.
I like the town hall format better. Let the candidate speak for an extended period of time - then ask questions and give them as much time as needed to respond.
That's the best way to get a good sense of where each candidate is coming from.

(34,825 posts)Sanders handed Debbie Waterboy her sorry ass under glass. Watching Hillarians pretend they wanted debates all along serves to underscore how they have no idea how the internet works. I guess that's why Hillary Supporter can't get it together to figure out clicky-clacky.

(28,706 posts)What actually happened was that Hillary didn't want more debates... and they did her bidding - and now she does want more debates... and they're still doing it.

The Democratic presidential candidates have asked for more debates, and it appears they are going to get their wish.
The previously scheduled debates on Feb. 11 and March 9 will go on as planned.
We have consistently worked with our campaigns to ensure a schedule that is both robust and allows our candidates to engage with voters in a variety of ways, whether through debates, forums or town halls, while also leaving them the flexibility to attend county fairs and living room conversations for the direct voter contact that matters so much in the early states, Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida, the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, said in a statement.

(34,661 posts)First,Trump was thought to be the Carnival Barker who would just fade away by Caucus Time via the populace waking up to his Bully Populism, not happening. Wall Street wanted Bush to be their Boy and now they want Cruz. There is something else taking place, people have lost their compass and seem to think Trump will better their station in life.
Number two,the biggee,Mr Sanders has scared the DNC Head Person into reality and she has to save face with rank and file whom for the most part do not trust her leadership, and after reading the trends and looking at the profile data, are finally understanding the need for enhanced face time for all of the Democratic Party Candidates.
Suddenly the story of it is Hillary's to lose,is coming into view. All of the Money Bags want something for what they bought. And the idea of a Trump President has the Banksters and their friends on Wall Street not wanting someone who will kill their Golden Goose, namely China and Mexcio.
