Giuliani blasts Beyoncé's 'outrageous' Super Bowl halftime performance
Source: The Hill
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) is blasting Beyoncés latest single, Formation, and her "outrageous" performance in a headline-making Super Bowl halftime show.
I think it was outrageous, Giuliani said in a Monday Fox News interview. I think the half-time show was ridiculous anyway. I dont know what the heck it was. A bunch of people like bouncing around and doing strange things. It was terrible.
Donning a gold-embellished jacket and black leotard, Beyoncé took to the field alongside Coldplay and Bruno Mars late Sunday in Santa Clara, Calif., at halftime of the showdown between the Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. The pop and R&B stars backing dancers were dressed in attire that paid tribute to the Black Panthers and, by extension, the Black Lives Matter movement that Beyoncé sings about on the new cut, Entertainment Weekly wrote of the performance.
This is football, not Hollywood and I thought it was really outrageous that [Beyoncé] used it as a platform to attack police officers, who are the people who protect her, and protect us, and keep us alive, Giuliani said on Monday.

(11,841 posts)It was just a trainwreck. Most opinions & reviews I've read say pretty much the same thing. Trying to cram too much crap into too short a time.
On a positive note though, Lady Gaga showed the whole world what a great voice she has!!! A very classy performance. If they missed her performance at the Oscars, this will make them look it up.

(12,778 posts)According to him, Coldplay even sucked. When Coldplay sucks, you know it's a bad day.
I missed Lady Gaga too.

that was amazing and so was her National Anthem. I had no idea she was such a good singer.

(21,046 posts)She is very talented. People who say "she's doing the same stuff with weird costumes that Madonna did 20 years ago" don't get the point. Madonna does not have one-half the talent or voice that Lady Gaga has. I think the weird costumes throw people off. They see the weird costumes and don't hear the talent. I think the same thing happened with David Bowie. Immensely intelligent and talented, but people saw the weird outfits and dissed him.
I'm one of those get off my lawn folks (baby boomers) who doesn't listen to anything past the late 80s, but Lady Gaga and Adele are the two young people that I can tell have great voices. Adele's songs all sound about the same. I think that's her problem. She needs more variety in her hits. Lady Gaga is capable of writing and singing a catchy, memorable pop song.
I thought Beyonce was vulgar and not to my taste, and Coldplay does nothing for me, but I would blow off Giuliani's criticism.
So does that mean Giuliani thinks that Lady Gaga is a Communist for wearing a blazing red pantsuit?

Beyonce is not my taste either and she usually sings sharp which drives me nuts. I did like that she paid homage to the Panthers and Malcolm X but the bullets on her costume were so wrong IMHO - too much gun violence to celebrate that.

(38,729 posts)because that was kind of the whole point. And Bruno Mars was 100% down with it.
I agree that there was too much in too short a time. Too much Coldplay.

(2,580 posts)I thought it was the most powerful, exciting, visually luscious, inclusive half time show ever. All three performers headliners were
awesome, the flashbacks moving, and the youthful, democratic, driving message of the show just left me so happy.
Rudy Guilianni, the young(er) generations hold nothing for an old hater, fearmonger like you or any other of your noxious, bigoted
ilk. That halftime show was a national cultural moment, its declaration was loud and clear.
