Turkish forces shell Syrian air base captured by Kurds

Source: Reuters

Turkish forces on Saturday shelled a Syrian air base and a village captured by Kurdish fighters from insurgents in recent days in northern Syria, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.

A Kurdish official confirmed the shelling of Menagh air base in the northern Aleppo countryside, which he said had been captured by the Kurdish-allied Jaysh al-Thuwwar group rather than the Kurdish YPG militia.

Both are part of the Syria Democratic Forces alliance.

The US doesn't want the civil war in Syria to end. The opposition is about to be crushed and you immediately see Kerry trying to prevent it. They want their regime change one way or another and it doesn't matter if they kill and destroy all of Syria to achieve their neocolonial goals.

At least after this, nobody in their right mind would ever think all these armed gangs in Syria just came about because of Climate change. No matter how much the Pentagon and CIA tries to convince you

If the US cannot rein in the Turks from their next attempt at genocide, the US will get the blame...and that means that President Obama will be the one left holding the bag!

He supports ISIS. His country is comprised of mostly religious fanatics, and is kept secular largely by the military.

The present Iraq-Syria situation arose because the U.S. government initiated the war of aggression against Iraq in 2003. After the failure of the Syrian revolution in 2011, the U.S. chose to arm, train and finance the foreign-led jihadis against Assad, and to back up the Saudi client state and other "allies" who have armed, trained and financed these jihadis, from whom Daesh arose. Since 2014 the U.S. government has been bombing targets in Syria, as it has done in Iraq since 2003, wait: since 1991.

Currently the U.S.

- is not calling on its Turkish ally to seal the border to Syria and cut off ISIS arms and oil flows.

- is not calling on its Saudi client entity to cease financing and arms flows to Syrian and oter jihadis, is not calling on said entity to cease its war of aggression in Yemen, and continues to sell indispensable arms to said entity.

- is arming some of the jihadi factions, and training jihadis at the CIA base in Jordan

In short, the U.S. has an obligation to take action to end the situation to which it has decisively contributed.

Turkey has all but given up the charade of wanting to be a part of Europe and a NATO partner and has instead doubled down on middle eastern power politics that put it at odds with NATO strategy. It's time for that country to withdraw from NATO and instead form a middle eastern defense coalition of like minded countries so they can stop speaking and acting from both sides of their mouth. NATO should ignore any Turkish provocation that causes it to engage Russia militarily and start supporting the only true allies we have in that region which are the Kurds.

Stop being on all sides. Stop the CIA from arming Nusra and the ilk. Tell the Kurds they have to allow Turkey their sphere of influence north of Aleppo. Tell Turkey and KSA to go pound sand.

Let the SAA and the Russians butcher the Islamists.

Declare victory.

Leave the Turkish mess after the war is over to President Clinton.

But stop arming and bombing all sides on the war.

Decide one way and stick to it. Good, bad or indifferent. Obama is the President. Make the US speak with one voice.

This is a mess.

People who have two brain cells to rub together can appreciate the difference between Bush invading Iraq and getting thousands of Americans killed, and laying the seeds of ISIS, and the Syrian civil war.

almost as damaging as the war in Iraq. Obama has been in office for going on eight years now, so he owns this. He encouraged the subversive elements (CIA sponsored terrorists) in Syria, enabling Saudi Arabia and Turkey to fund and arm ISIS and other terrorist groups, and leading to the fleeing refugees. His style is different than Bush. Ask Syrians if they'd rather have their country back the way it was before 2008.

Obama has been fanning the flames.

He has not been effective at getting rid of ISIS. For the reason that they were allowed/created to exist to do our bidding. It has started to be uncomfortable for Europe and U.S., as they see their chickens coming home to roost.

Face it, we're in bed with some strange company in the way of Saudi Arabia and Turkey, and the terrorists they support. It might turn out that we change course toward a more secular path. Not with Obama, or maybe? He has most of a year left.

Remember that that Turkey is a country that committed mass genocide of well over a million Armenians in 1915, and they have never apologized or admitted that. And Saudi Arabia is where 17 of 19 terrorists came from to attack us in 2001. Like I say, we are in bed with some bad countries, and it might get worse. Obama has a chance to change course.

Created/allowed is a line of distinction that matters little. If Obama wanted ISIS gone, they would be gone by now. The Russians with allies seem more capable at this, so I'd suggest standing back to see if they can. And call off the ones who are enabling ISIS, Turkey and Saudi Arabia.

in Syria that has led us to the present situation. A weak Iraq and a strong Syria might have held back ISIS, but he continued to hammer away at Syria. Now I think he'd do well to strike a deal with the Russians, and bow out of Syria. Just my take on the situation.
