Gov. Snyder seeks more Medicaid coverage for Flint residents

Published: February 14, 2016

FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Gov. Rick Snyder is asking the federal government to expand Medicaid coverage to people under 21 and pregnant women who have been exposed to Flint's lead-contaminated water.

In a statement released Sunday, Snyder says about 15,000 more Flint residents would benefit if the government approves the request. The governor says the state would help by lining up doctors and behavioral health specialists and providing other services.

For 18 months, Flint used the Flint River for drinking water. A lack of corrosion control in the water caused lead to leach from old plumbing throughout the city.

Meanwhile, U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy plans to visit Flint on Tuesday. He's expected to meet residents, speak at Mount Carmel Baptist Church and take questions from the public.

These folks deserve all the help they can get. But it is infuriating how republicans vilify federal government at every chance they get yet will turn hat in hand to the federal government to pay for their colossal mistakes.

4. Small government governor passing his obligation on to the big, bad federal government?

He should put up some of the ill gotten "savings" he accrued from his strategic plan to cut local government.

I do want the people of Flint to get all the help they need now and in the future, but Snyder passing the buck (and the blame) really pisses me off!

6. Perhaps he should ask first what the cost to the state will be? I mean, the state needs to pay for

this, I'll be damned if I'll be paying for something the governor of another state does. I have enough trouble paying for my own governor's stupidity.

In contrast to many Repug Governors, Snyder did expand Medicaid against many of those in his party that were opposed. There is a lot to criticize him for, but not sure this is one of them

12. He waited six months to do that, maybe killing as many as died from his Flint watering.

He had to compromise in order to keep his rich killer benefactors killing and killing some more.
