Donald Trump calls for Apple boycott
Source: USA Today
Donald Trump is taking aim at Apple over its refusal to comply with a court order to unlock a phone used by one of the San Bernardino terrorists.
Speaking at a rally in South Carolina the day before the state's pivotal GOP presidential primary, Trump said, "First of all, Apple ought to give the security for that phone, OK. What I think you ought to do is boycott Apple until such time as they give that security number."
"I just thought of it," he said. "Boycott Apple."
Trump didn't backdown from his call on Twitter later, saying he used an iPhone and Samsung phone, but until Apple followed the court order, "I'll only be using Samsung."

The Donald forgot to mention that it's easy to unlock an iPhone. All he has to do is type in 1 2 3 4

(11,045 posts)so I tend to bite on this sort of stuff. It's not what Samsung does in the States, it is what it practices in Korea. Let's leave it at that.

Is every iPhone user okay with having their personal life forced open, by law enforcement, or government, or foreign governments?
No? I didn't think so.

(53,206 posts)I am SERIOUSLY not worried about "law enforcement, or government, or foreign governments" forcing my personal life open. This is not East Germany. The police have nothing to gain by spying on random citizens for no reason.
What I am VERY worried about is criminals breaking into iPhones and stealing their owners' financial data. Those guys have a lot to gain by doing it, and they will do it with impunity. So...no backdoors. Period.

They criticized government officials who reset the Apple identification associated with the phone, which closed off the possibility of recovering information from it through that automatic cloud backup.
The government first disclosed the identification change in a footnote to its filing Friday. The Apple executives said that the reset occurred before Apple was consulted. The Justice Department declined to comment on that contention.

(12,448 posts)The FBI wants Apple to disable the code that would wipe the phone's memory after 10 incorrect password attempts. With that disabled, the FBI can find the password by a "brute force" attack.
