Donald Trump calls for Apple boycott

Source: USA Today

Donald Trump is taking aim at Apple over its refusal to comply with a court order to unlock a phone used by one of the San Bernardino terrorists.

Speaking at a rally in South Carolina the day before the state's pivotal GOP presidential primary, Trump said, "First of all, Apple ought to give the security for that phone, OK. What I think you ought to do is boycott Apple until such time as they give that security number."

"I just thought of it," he said. "Boycott Apple."

Trump didn't backdown from his call on Twitter later, saying he used an iPhone and Samsung phone, but until Apple followed the court order, "I'll only be using Samsung."

so I tend to bite on this sort of stuff. It's not what Samsung does in the States, it is what it practices in Korea. Let's leave it at that.

Majority of them don't even know or care whose running for President. Most use them because whoever in their sphere of influence said that is what you are supposed to have. Or it is a status symbol, so yeah, they're gonna go get a Blackberry.

I am SERIOUSLY not worried about "law enforcement, or government, or foreign governments" forcing my personal life open. This is not East Germany. The police have nothing to gain by spying on random citizens for no reason.

What I am VERY worried about is criminals breaking into iPhones and stealing their owners' financial data. Those guys have a lot to gain by doing it, and they will do it with impunity. So...no backdoors. Period.

Reuters via HuffPo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/us-apple-san-bernadino_us_56c7755de4b0928f5a6bcd29

The two senior Apple executives said the company had worked hard to help investigators and tried multiple avenues including sending engineers with FBI agents to a WiFi network that would recognize the phone and begin an automatic backup if that had been enabled.

They criticized government officials who reset the Apple identification associated with the phone, which closed off the possibility of recovering information from it through that automatic cloud backup.

The government first disclosed the identification change in a footnote to its filing Friday. The Apple executives said that the reset occurred before Apple was consulted. The Justice Department declined to comment on that contention.

The FBI wants Apple to disable the code that would wipe the phone's memory after 10 incorrect password attempts. With that disabled, the FBI can find the password by a "brute force" attack.
