Looks like Marco Rubio has some splaining to do. More and more rumors are surfacing out of Florida that he had an ongoing affair with a DC lobbyist named Amber Stoner. This allegedly occurred while he wase serving as the Speaker of the Florida State House of Representatives. He used an American Express credit card from the Florida Republican Party to pay for AT LEAST 17 separate trips for the two of them. They seemed to end up in the very same place frequently. Ive heard these rumors for some time now and usually where there is smoke, there is fire with this sort of thing. The records in question are publicly searchable on The Florida Times-Union website. People are asking why a lobbyist would be traveling using his credit card and why a number of those trips were to resort locations

Let's move on and stop turning this into something political when it's really about Rubio and his family.
There. I realize we haven't gotten that far, but I think I've checked all the boxes for when it comes to that

(8,613 posts)No straight remarks about Rubio's involvement in the purchase. Lots of speculation that she must have had help to buy it and that the records of purchase are being hidden. County records do not show the house as sold, yet. No "reliable news source" has commented, yet.
If she is or was a health care lobbyist why would she need help to buy a house? Why would Rubio or his close associates do something like this so close to the election? Even if they did it at arm's length it would be very hard to hide and the blow-back would be dangerous, not just embarrassing.

(6,241 posts)He doesn't have much support. Just a small, but loud group. Everyone is about Trump or Cruz. There's where the fight is going to be. Rubio vs Trump is Bambi vs Godzilla.
JackRiddler
(24,979 posts)Cruz is in until the end, but no chance.
Rubio, also no chance. I suppose he could get close and have the establishment consider coalescing around him, but he's a very weak candidate. Why have him lose the general when they could let Trump run and, by losing, kill the Tea Party Frankenstein they created? (Or win, since he might?)
Laughably, the last establishment hope is... Kasich!
christx30
(6,241 posts)because he's stated the right should just "move on" from gay marriage opposition.
"People talk about religious liberty, and I think frankly our churches should not be forced to do anything that's not consistent with them, but if you're a cupcake maker and someone wants a cupcake, make them a cupcake," he said. "Let's not have a big lawsuit or argument over all this stuff. Move on."
That quote was offensive to a bunch of them, so he might as well be a transsexual abortionist as far as they are concerned.

(413 posts)A few posters already have alleged this was tax money, but the article says it was a Republican Party credit card. That's their business how they want to spend. (Not that hay couldn't be made about the cozy relationship with healthcare lobbyists)
Still this is a big problem for him. He can't do what John Edwards should have done, i.e. just admit it and let it blow over and not face charges of lying about it. Repub base won't like it anyhow.
If it does turn out to break the campaign, the GOP establishment that does not want Cruz or Trump will have only Kasich to turn to as their best hope for a reasonable sounding candidate. I expect they will get behind him very soon.

(3,335 posts)Why would they out him? The stories about his use of Credit Card while Speaker of the Florida State House of Rep has been around for a long time though. The mistress, that's a new one. Somehow I doubt it. Besides the National Enquirer alleged this week that Marco is gay. Perhaps the mistress story is intended to buttress the NE's gay stories. You know you can have a mistress and remain in the GOP. But be gay and you're toast.

(24,979 posts)Nothing to do with the GOP rules in his case. He is campaigning as Trump and faking everything in the most open way possible. And his supporters don't care. How is it possible he made the Fifth Avenue comment at all? It's different for Rubio, who also has to deal with Cruz and the whole evangelical universe.

(34,189 posts)While he was in the Florida Senate, he and another legislator purchased a house in Tallahassee together. Sometime after he had to leave the Florida Senate, the house was threatened with foreclosure. He's made many other poor financial decisions: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/10/us/politics/marco-rubio-finances-debt-loans-credit.html
About the Florida Republican Party credit card, he's claimed that all "personal expenses" were reimbursed but there have always been questions about that.
