Idaho legislator says trauma prevents pregnancy in rape, incest victims
Source: Spokesman-Review
The bill in question would require women seeking abortions to be given a list of providers of free ultrasounds, and to be told they have a right to such a procedure and to hear a fetal heart monitor.
...snip...
During the hearing Rep. Pete Nielsen, R-Mountain Home, said, Now, Im of the understanding that in many cases of rape it does not involve any pregnancy because of the trauma of the incident. That may be true with incest a little bit.
...snip...
He added, I read a lot of information. I have read it several times. Being a father of five girls, Ive explored this a lot.

(16,799 posts)Is strong in the entire Republican party, and what makes that stink even more putrid is that not only are the religionists pushing this crap, but they have atheists, gays, and worst of all other women, as allies!!!
To have conservative men trying to control a woman's right to choose is bad enough, but when other women enlist in this male supremacist cause, that is beyond pathetic!!!
The problem is they are indoctrinated--sometimes through religious teachings, through socialization, because they have no self-esteem after years of being oppressed, or because of the fear mongering right-wing propaganda that is so pervasive and coming from media sources that appear to be the norm (such as Fox News).
This social-political deficit is not going away anytime soon.
Republicans have known for decades that in order to ensure power in the face of the on-going efforts of Democrats to grant rights and what Republicans saw as privileges that only some should have, they deliberately courted the "Christian" vote, and began to use their corporate allies to help lobby against these social changes. They also planned to ensure the perpetuation of power through redistricting and through disenfranchisement. Loyal Republicans in Congress were rewarded with plum positions after leaving office, and those who did not push the ideological agenda were treated poorly. On top of that Republicans knew they would have to dumb down the population which they have been successfully doing by de-funding schools and influencing school curriculum, while at the same time taking over the media. Fox News was specifically designed to help Republicans stay in power and to help very rich people and corporations have public support while they shed themselves of impediments such as regulations, oversight, union advocacy, taxes, and responsibilities.
We now have authoritarianism as an okay political platform--supported by those deliberately indoctrinated by Republicans who sought to reaffirm and perpetuate their power.

(102,401 posts)that the GP is aware of... doesn't mean there isn't one for certain electorates like those in lds dominated states. We just don't hear about it since the lds secret society does this behind the cloak of religious activity, they usually decide who can get on the ballot and that's that. Was a voter in that state for well over a decade, got real tired of it.

(8,484 posts)however a test on scientific grounds should be the precedent. I'm agnostic/atheist, but popular public policy allows a system of fables, fairy tales and faith to dictate the terms. We should be scared, it will only get worse under rw control.
