Jewish Tourists Stoned in Jordan over 'Provocative Hats'

Jewish Tourists Stoned in Jordan over 'Provocative Hats'
Arabic websites say religious Jewish visitors to Kerak were attacked with shoes and rocks.

Arabs in Kerak, Jordan, attacked Jewish tourists because they wore "provocative hats" and other items of clothing worn by religious Jews, according to Arab websites.

The incident took place Sunday afternoon, when a group of Jews visited the Jordanian tourist site, where a Crusader castle is located along with other attractions.

According to Al Jazeera, as translated by bloggers, "Salem Jeradat – who owns a grocery in the town – was surprised Sunday afternoon by a delegation of Jewish men and women who were wearing the clothing of religious Jews, which led him to throw his shoes at them."

"'Then the people of the town immediately approached the group, threw shoes and stones, and kicked them out of town,' Jeradat said. 'The people of Jordan do not accept the Jews entering their homeland, and the Araba Valley treaty between Jordan and the Zionist entity does not represent us.'"

it seems to all come from one person, the grocer. Did anyone talk to the victims? Did anyone report the assault to the police? What about a reaction from the Israeli government? So many questions.

How about when parents force kids to eat vegis? aren't they just forcing their values on the kids?

Piercing someone without consent is really messed up in my opinion.

Force feeding people is pretty fucked up in my opinion. There are better ways to get kids to eat veggies than by force.

Perhaps we are imagining two different things by the word "force."

Duck or geese are force fed so their liver will become very fatty.

It's a delicacy.

The fact that they put on their little hats, like daddy does?

Do you like to argue just for argument sake?

Boys wear long pants to school, have to do homework, wear reasonable clothing in accordance with their parents' religious beliefs, are told to eat their veggies, and a host of other things, since they are not old enough to decide these things for themselves. It's called raising children, not letting them raise themselves.

If you child wanted to start dressing like a Wall Street investment guy, sympathized with Rush Limbaugh, and wanted to grow up to be like Mel Gibson and Hitler, I'm guessing you'd try to infuse more decent values in the little tyke.

Look up the definition.

A cult is a group of people with extreme dedication to a certain leader or set of beliefs that are often viewed as odd by others, or is an excessive and misplaced admiration for someone or something, or is something that is popular among a certain segment of society.

Frankly, it's no one's business what others wear for religious reasons, as long as it doesn't break the law.

Those boys look pretty happy to me. Not like boys being force fed at all.

No more than you were "forced" to wear long pants to school, wear a shirt to school, or do anything else your parents thought a decent child should do, to learn how to get along in society and conform to their idea of a decent life for a child.

Burkas? That is forcing, and is against the law in many countries. And it's forced not on children, but on adults, who are of an age to make their own decisions.

I am "forced" to dress a certain way at work, as are you and all of us.

Is similar to instilling religious beliefs in that they are both about inculcating values and morals.
