Trump Calls Tiananmen Square Protests a 'Riot,' Defends Calling Crackdown 'Strong'

Source: NBCNEWS online

During Thursday night's Republican presidential debate, Donald Trump defended comments he made in a 1990 Playboy interview that some critics have said praised the Chinese government's crackdown on the 1989 pro-democracy protests in Tiananmen Square, which Trump called a "riot" during the debate.

"Mr. Trump, some of your Republican critics have expressed concern about comments you have made praising authoritarian dictators," CNN anchor and debate moderator Jake Tapper said. "You have said positive things about Putin as a leader and about China's massacre of pro-democracy protesters at Tiananmen Square."

Referencing comments made during Trump's Playboy interview, Tapper continued, "You've said, 'When the students poured into Tiananmen Square, the Chinese government almost blew it, then they were vicious, they were horrible, but they put it down with strength. That shows you the power of strength.'"

Trump said he didn't use the term "strength" as a compliment, calling the Tiananmen Square protests a "riot" in the process.

All those wonderful factories with armed guards in towers, surrounded by walls topped with razor wire, full of former American jobs, where the workers commit suicide by jumping from their work platforms....
That is his vision for us.

And then essentially followed his own blue print. Years later, we shake our heads and cluck at the cluelessness of the fools who couldn't see what he was planning when he spelled it out so clearly years in advance.

Just saying.

trains and gas chambers. It started out as random crimes on Jews, homosexuals, and other "undesirables". More and more restrictive laws.
Pretty much the things that Trump is advocating, and his supporters are eating up with a spoon.

While that happened (at night) I was with Chinese students in the US screaming louder than I think I have ever screamed in my life at them to STOP. That was an experience which I will remember forever. I am very proud to have stood there with them.

Trump can go to hell.

We're all in it together.

I apologize if my poor writing (not sarcasm) caused you to misinterpret what I was trying to say.
It was meant to illustrate how dangerous Donald Trump is. That branch of the right has felt powerless for years. They see the country going in what they feel is the wrong direction, like Germany in the late '20's. Then they see Trump, who doesn't care about offending people, says everything they want to hear, every bigoted, disgusting bit of it. He promised to make America great again, like a certain politician did in Germany. Certain minorities are painted as the villains that are destroying the US, like jews, homosexuals, communists, ect were destroying Germany. I think you know where I am going with this.
There's where the violence is in Trump's message. You're with them, and America, of your're a no good ______ lover.
Honestly, if trump would stop supporting eminent domain, he'd get nearly 100% of the right.

Nope. It's with us right now. He is no better than those dictators who turned the tanks on the people.

And this is partly what those who would vote for Clinton, do not get. These people want to be your boss.

Major historical events are twisted.

They see the world as if it's populated by a bunch of nobodies that need to be beaten to a pulp to remind them of their station in life.

The party will insure every single delegate vote not pledged to Trump will go their preferred candidate of choice whether than be Kasich, or Cruz or even Romney.
