CHICAGO Bernie Sanders is holding a press conference at the Hyatt downtown this morning.
Hes talking about the differences he has with Hillary Clinton, before Illinois voters head to the polls on Tuesday.
Hell also sit down with Jesse Jackson in a Rainbow/Push Coalition forum.

(628 posts)after his scandal broke. Bill also attended Jesse's mother funeral last year. Bill started early trying to lock up the endorsement. I will be surprised if Jesse endorses anyone. Even after Bernie supported him, he wouldn't want to offend the all powerful Clintons.

(4,695 posts)Now to present ACA/Hillarycare where many Americans not working, are not eligible for ACA health plans. Hillary has written them off. Jackson's Single Payer Healthcare would have picked up everybody by 1989. Bill Clinton changed up Jackson's healthcare, to become third way, a give away to Conservative big insurance companies, as Universal HMO Healthcare. Which was picked up by Republicans and made into Romneycare, in Massachusetts.
President Obama stopped the public option of ACA even though Republicans did not ask him too; that is third way again getting in the way of Progressive social democracy that Sanders and Jackson will discuss.

(129,543 posts)No. Baucus halted it in its tracks with Lieberman steadfast about blocking it. So had one thrown up their hands in a belligerent stand on principles, rather than push ahead with some sort compromise... with the expectation that like SS & Medicare, it could be amended to get what we want in the future, then there would have been nothing but whining and useless finger-pointing, and the opportunity would have been lost for another couple decades.
People can keep spouting this "third way" bullshit all they want but it shows a complete lack of understanding about the legislative process.

Truth about the public option momentarily emerges, quickly scampers back into hiding
Tom Daschle confirms, then denies, what has long been clear: Obama secretly negotiated it away early on

(129,543 posts)Really?
FAIL.
Without Daschle and with Sen. Ted Kennedy dying of cancer, the White House turns to Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.). A conservative Democrat, Baucus worked with the Bush administration on tax cuts. The view is he can bring moderate Republicans on board.
Baucus's critics raise alarms about his ties to special interests; since 2005, he had received more than $2.5 million from the special interest groups in the health industry. And according to a report from the Sunlight Foundation, five former Baucus staffers, including two former chiefs of staff, work for a total of 27 organizations with an interest in the outcome of health care reform.
In May, the Senate Finance Committee holds hearings on expanding health coverage, calling 41 witnesses. The hearings are interrupted by activists outraged over Baucus's refusal to allow advocates for a single-payer system to testify; Baucus has the activists removed from the hearing and arrested.
Read more on the single-payer option and the arrests of liberal activists in this transcript from Bill Moyers Journal.

And it went downhill from there. In the winter of 2010, just 4 1/2 months after Ted Kennedy passed, a bunch of folks in MA decided to vote for a Republican to replace him. And that was the end of the 60 vote margin. The entire year was a lesson in the sausage-making of legislation where the media kept misrepresenting various versions that may have passed in each committee and chamber as "the bill" as if it were some final version.
