Sanders needs to change 'tone' if he wants NY debate

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by etherealtruth (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: The Hill

A top aide to Hillary Clinton's campaign on Monday dodged questions about setting up a debate with Bernie Sanders in New York, saying it depends on the senator's "tone."

"This is a man who said he'd never run a negative ad ever. He's now running them. They're planning to run more," Joel Benenson, Clinton's chief strategist, said on CNN. "Let's see the tone of the campaign he wants to run before we get to any other questions."

After winning a trio of states over the weekend, Sanders on Sunday called for a debate in New York ahead of that state's April 19 primary. The Vermont senator is looking to cut into Clinton's delegate lead and says he has the "momentum" heading into the latter half of the race.

The pair faced off in a Miami debate earlier this month, and a Sanders campaign letter on Sunday said the two campaigns had agreed to a California debate in May but had not agreed to terms on a debate in April, according to The New York Times.

Both stories make clear that according to legal experts Clinton is very unlikely to be punished for her exclusive use of a private email server during her time at State since the practice was not forbidden. (Worth noting: Lots of other secretaries of state used private email accounts to supplement their official accounts; none used only a private email account and server.) Potentially more problematic for Clinton is her insistence that she never knowingly sent or received any messages that were marked classified at the time. It’s been shown in the year-plus of investigations into her server that there were a number of items on Clinton’s server that were classified after the fact, but there is no evidence to make her initial statement untrue.

Hillary can do this the easy way (withdraw in the near future, citing the fact she's being railroaded by the GOP and thus earning some much-needed public sympathy).

Or she can be stubborn about it, which will put her thorough a federal indictment anyway and probably lead to this:

Of course the last time I posted a thread like that I garnered a hide. The Hillary court thought it was too offensive.

I'm posting it anyway. Update - someone beat me too it.

I realize I'm new but the only thing I've seen with your guy's jury system is it massively favors Hillary and it consistently goes the wrong way. I suspect Hillary isn't the only "liberal Democrat" today, who went the wrong way for civil rights in the 60's and kept going the wrong way for decades after. I think she attracts people just like her. Maybe a lot of voters remorse here still from 2008? Just saying as they seem to be long time Hillary supporters and unwilling acknowledge or care about her record. I wonder how many voted for Hope and Change Obama? That sounds more like the MO of a Bernie supporter. Dang those unicorns and rainbows! We keep trying!

Goodman is so anti-war and anti-fascist that this very liberal guy got tricked into thinking Rand would be different than Bush or Hillary. That's a blunder on his part you are correct. I didn't notice his blog was from the guy who suggested Rand would be best to change the NeoCon landscape. He is definitely duped you are right. We shall see though if anything happens to Hillary. Immunity for underlings and FBI interviews generally mean more than just tying an investigation together as WaPost suggests. It certainly wouldn't be fair to target Hillary who was just doing what Bush and his administration did and got away with it. But there is the problem. She's very much like Bush. Why do you think so many of us are afraid of her? That's the biggest reason.

And she is also a woman, which means a higher standard has always been set for her. Elizabeth Warren has written about that.

with, "Don't you dare talk to me that way," even if what the kid said was absolutely spot on and completely justified. Disgusting bullying behavior.

Today I'm seeing a whole lot of the corporate media downplaying and speaking dismissively of Bernie's big wins over the weekend. Just part of the media and Hillary campaign strategy of keeping him "at heel."

anything in their power to avoid it. They both know that the more exposure Clinton gets, the more obvious it is that she's a deeply, deeply flawed candidate, and her numbers invariably go down. Why do you think they only scheduled six Democratic primary debates at all, when in 2008 they had twenty-four? They figured they just had to keep things quiet for a short while and limit Clinton's exposure so they could just hand her the nomination.

Remember how Camp Clinton fought tooth and nail against scheduling any additional debates—until it became apparent that Sanders was actually eating into her lead, and her coronation was threatened? And then they agreed, suddenly, to two more, so they could whip the tarp off the new Clinton 2.0, into which they'd hurriedly installed all the features that was attracting buyers to the new guy? I sure do.

You're right, though, in that she doesn't need another debate, but not in the way you imagine...In reality she doesn't need another debate in much the same way the Titanic doesn't need another iceberg. And she and Wasserman Schultz know it all too well.

The Clinton campaign is starting to run scared. Despite the MSM's best efforts, this campaign is not over and Bernie is beginning to close the gap. Note that the MSM did their best to not cover Sanders' 3 state sweep by overwhelming margins this past weekend. And Hillary's campaign - no debate unless Bernie changes his "tone". What BS - it might be time for HRC to change her tone.

I would rather a plan like Hillary's, that targeted all the aid at students who need it, allowing them to graduate debt free.

I also don't think the time is right for a candidate to be advocating for single payer. That would mean both parties would be criticizing Obamacare and the voters would choose the alternate plan they thought would be cheaper . Bernie plans to raise taxes on everyone to do it and that will never fly.

And I would like a President who had Hillary's knowledge of foreign affairs, not Bernie's.

Bernie Sanders has asked for a debate in NY State, prior to the very important up coming primary. Hillary Clinton has demanded that in order for this to take place he must stop talking about her stands on the issues that are very important to the people of this country. Hillary Clinton claims several ads are negative without challenging a single one of them on substance. This appears more a way to avoid a debate than an actual concern about the tone of some ads which contents are on Hillary's policy and not her fitness to assume the office of the President of the United States. However, her insistence on a change in tone suggests that Hillary might not be up to the rigors of the office as many world leaders will have an unpleasant tone.
