Former Trump Super PAC Director Writes Open Letter Explaining Why She’s Quitting Trump

Last edited Tue Mar 29, 2016, 01:50 PM - Edit history (2)

Source: Slate

The former director of a pro-Donald Trump Super PAC officially defected from Team Trump on Monday with an essay on xoJane about how she lost faith in her candidate of choice. Stephanie Cegielski, a strategist and communications specialist, says she was brought in to run the Make America Great Again Super PAC last summer, but ultimately came to realize what everyone who hasn’t fallen under the Trump spell could sniff from the very beginning: Trump is wholly unprepared to be president and is only out for himself.

Cegielski paints a picture of a campaign and candidate that began with modest aspirations of hitting double digits in support, but later caught fire and began to believe its own hype. Here’s a sampling of what Cegielski has to say:

Even Trump's most trusted advisors didn’t expect him to fare this well … the goal was to get The Donald to poll in double digits and come in second in delegate count. That was it. The Trump camp would have been satisfied to see him polling at 12% and taking second place to a candidate who might hold 50%. His candidacy was a protest candidacy … And I am now taking full responsibility for helping create this monster — and reaching out directly to those voters who, like me, wanted Trump to be the real deal …

=snip=

What was once Trump’s desire to rank second place to send a message to America and to increase his power as a businessman has nightmarishly morphed into a charade that is poised to do irreparable damage to this country if we do not stop this campaign in its tracks

Original OP....

Trump’s Top Strategist Just Quit And Wrote This Brutal Open Letter To Trump Voters

One of Donald Trump’s top campaign strategists, former communications director Stephanie Cegielski, has resigned from his campaign in protest of Trump’s ridiculous statement that “only he can solve” the bombing in Pakistan (whatever that might mean). She has penned a devastating open letter to his supporters, explaining to us why she originally supported Trump, and how his excess and dishonesty turned her against him. She issues a stark warning to Trump supporters that the supposed “authenticity” of Trump is nothing but smoke and mirrors, a soap opera character – and that at the end of the day, Donald Trump only cares about himself. A brutal denunciation of Trump as both a candidate and a person, it might be the most complete evisceration of the orange-haired rabble-rouser yet written.

It will be interesting to see if Donald Trump’s supporters will be able to dismiss this evisceration so easily. They can’t cry “liberal media” or establishment bias – this comes from inside his own camp, the people who know him better than any of his supporters. It’s also a significant indication that Trump’s own advisers are becoming increasingly tired of his racist antics and his utter refusal to formulate any kind of substantial policy proposals. They recognize that he is utterly unprepared for the presidency and has no desire to change that.

Bernie just wants to hurt Hillary and destroy the Democrat party then retreat to Vermont and carry on life as usual.

Yeah, all that stuff about the bankers and taking back the country from corporations is just for show. Never mind that he's been doing it all his life: he was preparing for his one great moment in life, to "hurt" Hillary and destroy the Democratic party.

There is something in this article that doesn't work for me. I don't know exactly why, but this article reads more like an ill played Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell GOP release against Trump. If the article is true, I will expect to see coverage by national media, as it's a fairly significant change of heart from a supposed high ranking member within the Trump team. I don't know, it just seems sour to me. As much as I would like to believe it, there seems to be falseness as to how it comes across. It's too contrived, to " talking point" specific.

She'd have to have a little more knowledge about policy in her experience to not see this coming with getting behind Drumpf.

She's either a poser (no real experience) or a true believer, which poorly prepared her for that work, as well.

She's about as unbelievable as all the rest of those mercenaries and fascists. She may be sadder and wiser, but in my view, she never had the resume to be a policy wonk, which is how she referred to herself.

At least we agree about shedding no tears for her. But, be honest... How do you think the Drumpf followers will react? They have no respect for themselves, so she'll go under that bus now, won't she?

Too late for her to have come to a conclusion she should have made already as a "policy wonk".

As I said (I will take the liberty to expand this a little) any supporter of Trump is short a quart of oil. They will never respond to reason. He will get his 40% of his stupid 40% party. That's it.

So why am I supposed to worry one iota about that 40% of 40%? Half the population has an IQ under 100.

There is too much of this nonsense here at DU; too many people pretend that the margins matter. Marginal people, by definition, don't matter. We have only logic and reason, at the end of the day. This is almost April. So she's been out of a job for 5 months? Her severance must be running out and she needs to make something happen. Thus, this article, which I'm sure made some bucks, could be expanded into a book, and who knows what after that, interivews, a movie, a play. Just think of it, "The Rise and Fall of the orange Donald". She's got the attention now she was seeking, especially with that photo of her tearing up the Trump campaign sigh. Let's see where this takes her.

The article was quite entertaining and further revealed Trump's yu-u-u-u-u-ge ego, and at the same time his lack of any real policy and his total unpreparedness for the presidency.

Most of us here knew that from the jump yet there are many posters here on this very board that go on and on about how if their candidate doesn't get the dem nomination they will stay home or vote 3rd party and get their revenge with Trump will become president, as if this preening, megalomaniacal, out-of-his-depth, woman-hating, racist con man can beat Clinton, or Sanders for that matter.

Maybe this OP will tamp down some of that foolishness as we watch yet another repug, clown car occupant flounder and meet his comeuppance.
