LA man accused of killing son because he was gay

Source: cnn

CNN) — A 69-year-old man shot dead his adult son in Los Angeles this week because his son was gay, according to prosecutors.

Shehada Khalil Issa was charged with premeditated murder.

He had previously threatened to kill his son, Amir Issa, 29, because he was gay, according to Los Angeles County prosecutors.

Police responded to a 911 call Tuesday and arrived at the family home in the North Hills neighborhood in Los Angeles.

Officers found the body of the son outside their home and his mother's body inside the home. Prosecutors allege that the elder Issa fired a shotgun that killed his son.

The LAPD is still investigating what happened to the victim's mother, who was not identified.

Investigators told the Los Angeles Daily News Issa had initially said he found his dead wife in the bathroom of their house and had shot his son in self-defense after being threatened with a knife.

Later, Issa made "incriminating statements" and was subsequently charged with murder. A detective told the paper: "It was a horrible family tragedy."

Issa is being held without bail and could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.

He will be arraigned on April 11.

Not that there isn't a crazy person or two that are agnostic or athiest... but to kill an LBGTQ? Why? Motive?

Not that crimes aren't committed by agnostics/athiests... For personal gain, murder for murders sake, trafficking drugs or people. Motives for those are universal. But to kill a gay son? I find that a stretch.

Religion is a motive to kill based on perceived sins based on fictional fairy tales.

I'm an athiest and find all religions equally ludicrous

They give motive to punishments for nothing more than the human condition. Punishments for adultry, LGBTQ, beliefs, free thinking.

I'm against holding the human condition hostage to religious insanity.

You need to study your dictionary a bit harder. That doesn't make me a bigot. It's my opinion.

The gun is just the tool. The religion is the inspiration for carrying out the act.

The gun can be replaced by any number of tools and the end result would be the same. The religion is the catalyst.

"The religion is the inspiration for carrying out the act..."

Inspiration... or justification. Or merely an excuse. We all of us pretend to know which is which though.

I wouldnt go so far as to say that I believe that all religion is false. You misunderstood my comment. I cited fairy tales as evidence of mocking people who adopt religion. One can be an atheist without actively mocking, attacking, shaming and hating people who hold religious beliefs. To do so is proclaiming a morally superior attitude which is the exact sort of behavior that we condemn when enacted by religious individuals who force their beliefs on others

Why should Florida and Texas be the only states to get that kneejerk reaction/label when something like this happens?

29. Honor killing
Sat Apr 2, 2016, 07:28 PM

This is basically an honor killing. it wont go recorded as such.. But its very normal for fathers to kill there gay sons. not as much in my old country iran (although being gay is punishable by death) but more modern countries like iran the fathers usually banish the son out of the family. Although it is possible they could be killed in iran if the family is in the backwoods of iran and away from major cities then its usually done quietly without making it in the news. One of the first hangings i ever saw was of someone who was accused of being gay. I didnt see the actual hanging but hes body was still hanging when we saw it on our way to school.

Thanks for the perspective, though.

I did wonder if this wasn't some sort of old-age dementia thing? Why at 29? Why is the mother dead?
