Apr 8, 9:41 AM (ET) DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) Bernie Sanders' claim that Hillary Clinton isn't qualified to be president landed with a boom this week. The blow was far from the first and won't likely be the last from the candidate who pledged to stay away from negative campaigning.
The Vermont senator kicked off his insurgent presidential bid last year with a pledge to focus on issues over character attacks and boasted often that he's never run a negative ad. But for months Sanders has sharply criticized Clinton, slamming her for supporting the war in Iraq, for her record on trade and most aggressively for her lucrative paid speeches before Wall Street bankers.
While his tone has shifted as the race has grown more combative on both sides, Sanders' campaign officials argue that he has kept his promise. They say he has focused his fire on policy and is simply fighting back against Clinton's own attacks.
"Bernie Sanders decided yesterday that he wasn't going to go into the New York primary and be run over by their campaign," said Tad Devine, a senior adviser to Sanders' campaign. "He responded in kind."

It would appear that Mr. Sanders and his campaign surrogates plan to double or triple down on this angle of attack.

and, yes that issue needs to be addressed, imo.

(24,324 posts)Clinton's disastrous decisions disqualify her from being president. Simple..
And don't tell me Clinton didn't start it. Her handlers knew just how to set this up and told Clinton what to say so it would LOOK like she was not saying Sanders is not qualified. But anyone with 2 eyes and 2 ears and a brain knows exactly what went down. It is CLASSIC Clinton tactics..

So her campaign 'handlers' are waaaay smarter? And he was sucked into something he didn't know he was doing? Hmmmm. Not a real good indication of how he would do with foreign leaders, is it? Bernie has been making smarmy comments for quite awhile. Passive agressive sh**. Veiled insults. He can dish it out but makes BIIIG mistakes when his opponent responds. Liberal Democrats are forgiving people but there comes a time when they just say 'the hell with it.'

(110,260 posts)What garbage. Vermont politics is like politics everywhere, just on a smaller scale. And he's been in the thick of it for decades.

He embarrasses himself.
Someone was raised in Illinois, went to school in Massachusetts, was First Lady of Arkansas before becoming Senator from NY. People in glass houses and all that.

(10,056 posts)Telling the truth is not 'negative' campaigning.
But there is no telling that to the supporters of her majesty.
Never mind that she is the one that manufactured this crap story and now plays the "who, me?" card.
That the M$M is carrying her water is not surprising given her association with their corporate owners.

(1,000 posts)And all the news backed her up as usual. They all admitted her remarks "may have" implied Bernie was not qualified, but because she never said the word all is good in Hillary Land.
I call bull shit.

(3,211 posts)Trump seems happy to attack anyone, so he can't say anything about her vote on Iraq (unless he points out she supported the repubs there). Her record on trade...well, the NAFTA thing did not work out and I don't really trust the TPP because of that (seems like American workers get screwed, but businesses fare well, so that doesn't seem like a Democrat standing).
Maybe if someone wanted to pay me $250,000 for talking to them, I probably wouldn't turn it down. But surely at some point THEY are going to want to talk to ME!! Especially when I have some power. And if what i am saying is worth so much, why wouldn't I share it with my fellow American citizens?
Even though many say Bernie is not a Dem. it seems to me he is speaking out about the things that Clinton does that makes her not the type of person that is the reason I support the party.
