Sanders wins Wyoming, prepares to take on Clinton in New York
Source: Reuters
WASHINGTON - Bernie Sanders won the U.S. presidential Democratic nominating contest in Wyoming on Saturday, besting rival Hillary Clinton and adding to a string of recent victories as the two candidates gear up for a crucial matchup in New York.
Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, has won seven out of the last eight state-level Democratic nominating contests, trying to chip away at Clinton's big lead in the number of delegates needed to secure the party's nomination.
Wyoming's 14 Democratic delegates - fewer than any other state - are awarded proportionally based on support from individuals participating in the nominating contest.
Early estimates showed that while Sanders won the contest, both he and Clinton would likely receive seven delegates each in the close race, maintaining Clinton's lead overall.

Pure personal insult from a poster with seven hides. I thought the idea behind amnesty was to give people a chance to mend their ways. This clearly merits a hide, at a minimum.

(67,782 posts)....as many pledged delegates as Sanders had, and she actually wrapped up the proceedings in Wyoming with 11 delegates to Sanders' 7 delegates.
With losses like that, I'm sure she's thinking.... "who needs wins?"

(1,054 posts)It was also an agreement for him to run for the DNC, just like it was for Trump for the RNC. Bernie also agreed to support Hillary if she wins, just like she would have agreed to if he wins. Also, Trump already broke his word and said he would run as an independent when he got mad 2 weeks ago. Trump has no real honor but Bernie does.

...........Clintons the top choice among Democrats, as Bernie Sanders is only able to take the lead among younger voters and men..................
In the race for the Democratic nomination, Sanders is hoping to turn the momentum from his double-digit Wisconsin win into a home state victory in New York.
The trouble for Sanders is, Wisconsin is the kind of state he wins -- mostly white and independents could participate in the open primary. New York is a more diverse state, and has a closed primary -- and thats to Clintons advantage. Plus, its been her home state more recently than Sanders.
The poll shows Clinton tops Sanders by 53-37 percent among NY likely Democratic primary voters. Another nine percent are uncommitted.
Clintons clearly the pick among women (61-30 percent) and non-whites (56-37 percent).
Men give the edge to Sanders by just 47-43 percent.
Sanders has a lot of work to do if hes going to make this race a close one, says Anderson. Hes currently losing among every demographic group with the exception of men and voters under age 45. Many more middle-age New Yorkers are going to have to feel the Bern for Sanders to have a chance of catching Clinton.
Young voters are Sanders biggest backers. Hes up by 11 points among those under 45 (52-41 percent) -- and by 30 points among the under 35 crowd (63-33 percent).
The former NY senator holds a 27-point advantage among voters 45 and over (58-31 percent).
Among those living in a union household, Clintons up by 49-40 percent.
She also leads among Jewish voters (59-35 percent) as well as Catholics (53-34 percent).
Regionally, Clinton dominates Sanders in New York City (+19) and is even running slightly ahead beyond the city and its suburbs.
Both Clinton (85 percent) and Sanders supporters (79 percent) have a high degree of vote certainty.
