(58,283 posts)Something Sanders has not contributed one dime to during his campaign.

(1,539 posts)The Clintons lost both Houses of Congress in the 90s. The American people will want the Republicans to oppose Hillary giving America away for pennies on the dollar. You'll have exactly the same grid-lock of the past 50 years. Each political party blaming each other as they pass K Street legislation.
PatrynXX
(5,668 posts)who gets tied to Hillary will likely lose it in November. I'd stay closer to Obama. You'll have Republicans out in droves locally.

No matter which candidate you support, attacking and bashing Democratic candidates is not the purpose of this site.

(5,668 posts)we want real Democrats in. something we should have learned during our drubbing in 2014 but I guess it takes more than one hand in the fire to lean our lesson.
say when you say he hasn't contributed one dime what a load of BS. Neither has she. Her $$$$ donors have and nobody cares about them. The Rich fund the Rich. hence Rigged. Glad to see the pope is making things interesting. You just foolhardely fell for the argument Bernie is making. get money out.

(58,283 posts)As the Pope described it:
"When I was leaving (Casa Santa Marta) Senator Sanders was there, he came to the meeting on Centesimus Annus, and he knew that I was leaving at that time, and he had the courtesy to greet me," Pope Francis said. "I greeted him and his wife and another couple that was with him."

(58,283 posts)Looks like Sanders staked out the Pope's residence at 4 AM and cornered him as he was leaving for Greece.

(67,782 posts)This happened at approximately 4AM, Sanders just happened to be in the lobby in the middle of the night!
This morning as I was leaving, Senator Sanders was there, Francis said. He knew I was coming out at that time, and he had the kindness to greet me.
When I came down, he introduced himself, I greeted him with a handshake, and nothing more, the pope added. Its common courtesy, this is called common courtesy.

(1,539 posts)These are the people that gave us the fake stories about Saint Kim Davis's meeting with the pope.

(67,782 posts)....an identical report.
If you had an opportunity to meet the pope wouldn't you?

(13,006 posts)also, re: "round trip flight costing a million or two" - what's your source for that figure? Geek Tragedy said it's $100k for a charter flight to Rome, so assuming he flew that way both directions, it would be $200k. (Charter flights are for the plane, not per person.)

(13,006 posts)...whether the trip has a political component, vs. whether meeting with the pope was political. Either way, I guess you could report it to the FEC and see what they say, but since it was rather highly publicized, I suspect they know about it.
SunSeeker
(58,283 posts)He's already had to pay back donations. This trip must have cost 6 figures. They chartered a Delta Boeing 767 and he took his wife and 10 relatives, various campaign staff, a Secret Service detail and members of the press. And he staked out the Pope's residence with Jeffrey Sachs, who was lead speaker at the Academy conference and got Sanders the Academy invite. Jeffrey Sachs is the Sanders campaign "foreign policy advisor."

(44,022 posts)the news this year and previously like the major reports issued by the Pew Research Foundation and the Davos summit to name just two sources. As well, major conferences and discussions sponsored by leading institutions like the Vatican, Oxfam and others have focused on this global danger and also pressing Climate Change around the world. For those who care at least.
It's the times, not the presidential primary campaign as Bernie's critics are want to think. Ssh, and get real. The Clooney's megabucks, posh CA fundraiser is a 'campaign opportunity' though, not the Vatican conference.

(16,104 posts)Pope Francis says:
"When I was leaving (Casa Santa Marta) Senator Sanders was there, he came to the meeting on Centesimus Annus, and he knew that I was leaving at that time, and he had the courtesy to greet me," Pope Francis said. "I greeted him and his wife and another couple that was with him."
"So when I went down, I said hello, a shake of the hand and nothing more," he continued. "This is politeness. This is called good manners, not meddling in politics. And if anyone thinks that to greet someone means to meddle in politics, then I suggest that they find a psychiatrist."

(598 posts)It Wasn't political.
Not for me or the hundreds of thousands of attendees. I did not shake his hand or speak at a Vatican conference. I wasn't as fortunate , as Bernie, to be given that opportunity.
He was given the opportunity. He took it. Good for him!
I'm sure he is glad he went, regardless of the negativity coming from his opponents.
