Donald Trump, in Upstate New York, Tries Another Label for Hillary Clinton

As he barnstormed in upstate New York on Saturday, Donald J. Trump came up with a new moniker for Hillary Clinton and strongly suggested that some delegates were getting a payoff to back certain candidates.
Crooked Hillary! Mr. Trump, at a rally in Watertown, N.Y., intoned about Mrs. Clinton, whom he previously called incompetent Hillary. But that adjective had four syllables, and Mr. Trump tends to pick names for his opponents that are shorter and likelier to stick with voters.

Mr. Trump also said in Watertown and in an earlier interview with Fox News that he thought delegates to the national convention not bound to a candidate back whichever campaign lavished goodies on them. Mr. Cruz has outmaneuvered Mr. Trump in getting his supporters named as delegates, but in Mr. Trumps telling, it had little to do with organizational effort.
Mr. Trump said he did not want to waste money to wine and dine and to essentially pay off all these people, because a lot of its a payoff, you understand that.

This will be Hillary's problem against Trump (if she wins). Her perceived debt to her big money donors will haunt her all campaign. And now Trump, or more likely his smarter political handlers, is now also using this trope. Its not something he actually cares about but he (or his handlers), see how it is working on the other side, so why not use it? Trump will be able to claim that he has not benifited from pricey dinners and speeches to billionaires, (because he has enough $ already, and gets plenty of free press). And he will further pound this home causing independents to turn from her, and also cause more disgruntled Democrats to stay home for the general election.
Just a shame that Bernie, who would definately win against Trump or Cruz, was not better known at the start of the primaries. Back then it was almost as clear as day that Hillary was the Democrats best chance, and most all Superdelegates did not want to be on the outs. I also think that many many primary voting Democrats from those early States would switch their votes today if they could, simply based on polls showing Hillary and Bernie are neck and neck with Democratic voters at present.

For the first time, nearly every presidential candidate is flanked by at least one independent group that can accept unlimited donations from individuals and corporations. Here are the totals for each White House contender and their allies through Feb. 29, 2016
