New York City comptroller Scott Stringer has ordered a full audit of the citys Board of Elections after widespread complaints over the voting process.
As the city comptroller, Stringer has the authority to conduct performance audits of all state agencies, including the Board of Elections. Stringers order of a full audit comes after the news that 126,000 voters in Brooklyn were quietly purged from county voter rolls over the last five months, and in response to the news of polling places opening two hours late and voting machines not working. Stringer issued a public statement Tuesday afternoon, describing the Board of Elections as disorganized, chaotic and inefficient.
There is nothing more sacred in our nation than the right to vote, yet election after election, reports come in of people who were inexplicably purged from the polls, told to vote at the wrong location or unable to get in to their polling site. The people of New York City have lost confidence that the Board of Elections can effectively administer elections and we intend to find out why the BOE is so consistently disorganized, chaotic and inefficient. With four elections in New York City in 2016 alone, we dont have a moment to spare.
In an official letter to Board of Elections executive director Michael Ryan, Stringer asked Ryan for the agencys response in how it conducts poll site operations, communications with voters, training of poll workers, and complaints of voter disenfranchisement.
All New Yorkers deserve an electoral system that is free, fair and efficient not one riddled with chaos and confusion, Stringer wrote.

(8,601 posts)If people were purged from the rolls does that mean no previous records identify who was purged? Other than personal records like registration cards, precinct records or party held copies of the rolls, how will they determine the previous registration?
Who supplied the lists or the software or the service to perform the purge? Who signed the authorization? Where are the memos and emails on this decision? Who determined which voters were to be removed? When and how was that certified? Was anyone notified that their registration had been challenged or removed? Was there a change in the registration information for those purged prior to the purge taking place? Does the recorded registration of those purged match the registration cards or other information that listed them as voters , such as previous precinct data lists, and etc (listed above)?
Who has access privileges to the voter data? Who services the data networks, sources and servers for those records?

..that's been reported as names suddenly dropped from Democratic voting rolls? Well, NPR's election show (the NYC version) just now reported that that figure is 120,000.
120,000 New York Democrats have been "lost" on the rolls since last November.

(14,177 posts)It's hundreds times worse than I thought it was. Gebus, it should be a lot easier to vote than it is. I don't think we should even have to chose party affiliation or at least we should be able to change it much easier and much closer to any election than it's possible now. And no I am not worried about RepubliCONS messing things up in order to do so they would be opening the door to oh say Independents going in and choosing who they nominate.

(34 posts)Anyone remember this?
New York 2008: 80 districts did not record a single vote for Obama, including heavily black districts like Harlem, as well as districts next to others where Obama had very favorable results.
And now in 2016 they target the place where Bernie was born, and places where he had better demographics and favorable results?
NPR has a story up today reporting in Brooklyn that entire city blocks and entire apartment buildings in Brooklyn were purged from the voting rolls for yesterday's election....that's right entire city blocks and entire apartment buildings full of voters in an area where Bernie grew up....what a coincidence, right?
Yet all the Hillary supporters: "This was totally fair guys! Nothing bad happened. Over 300,000 NY Democrats were purged, and the exit poll which has a 1 in 236,000 chance of being that wrong were wrong, but you shouldn't challenge our very democratic party! As an aside the mayor, DeBlasio, the comptroller who is supposedly investigating, Stringer and the head of the board of elections, Ryan are all Hillary supporters.....
am sure that is just a coincidence, right? happened to Obama.....happened to Sanders.....that's just the good old boy democratic party network in action in New York State....at the end of the day all that matters is winning right???????
